Ahmadinejad tells Stephanopoulos: I Accept Two State Solution
This is a big story.
George Stephanopoulos flew off to Iran this week to get an exclusive interview with President Ahmadinejad.
He asked him what he will do if the Israelis and Palestinians agree on a two-state solution. Will he accept Israel then.
The response is here. ALONG WITH FULL TREXT OF INTERVIEW

He's said in the past, last time he was here in the USA that he would accept whatever the Palestinians voted for.
Mr. Mike Wallace, Mr. Journalism, Mr. Emmy Award, censored those statements in a televised 60 Minutes interview with him. youTube interview

There is noting new here. Ahmadinejad's position has always been that the Palestinians should be given an opportunity vote on their future, and that Iran will accept whatever decision the Palestinians make. The content of this interview with Stephanopoulos is pretty much identical in both tone and substance to the September, 2007 interview with Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes.
2009 interview:
STEPHANOPOULOS: If the Palestinians sign an agreement with Israel, will Iran support it?
AHMADINEJAD: Whatever decision they take is fine with us. We are not going to determine anything. Whatever decision they take, we will support that. We think that this is the right of the Palestinian people, however we fully expect other states to do so as well.
The U.S. administration, European governments. The right to determine their fate by the Palestinians should be respected by all of them.
2007 interview:
PELLEY: If the Palestinians reach an agreement with Israel for a two-state solution, will you then recognize Israel as well?
AHMADINEJAD: Well, the decision rests with the Palestinian people. This is exactly what I'm saying.

Wow MJ!
Next you will break the news that Ahmadinejad never said Iran will wipe Israel off the map.
Or you will discover that the IAEA inspects Iranian nuclear facilities on a regular, unannounced basis and sees NO signs of weapons activity.
Or you will notice that the Ayatollahs have ddeclared nuclear weapons to be "unIslamic".
You are definitely ahead of the curve!

Ummm...actually, according to the IAEA itself, it conducted 14 surprise inspections of Iran's uranium enrichment plant, and for the last 6 years the IAEA has consistently stated that it has found no evidence of a nuclear weapons program in Iran. So perhaps you're being facetious when you posted that & I just didn't get it.

Thanks for this interview. Important, though not exactly a breakthrough (as two prior commenters have suggested).
Ahmadinejad is a politician of limited moral scruples, moderate intelligence, considerable cunning, and great ambition. He is not Iran at its best, not by a long shot. The American government should hold its nose and negotiate with him, but not pretend that there is no stench. A lot of other governments were polite and dealt with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc. for many years. We hope they appreciate now that common sense has finally prevailed in America after a long absence. We need to be ready to be similarly appreciative, but not prematurely, with respect to countries such as Iran.
Most Palestinians and most Israelis also accept a two-state solution, but do not want to seriously confront the vital role of terrorists in their own ranks in keeping that solution away from the near future. America needs to turn to decisively oppose BOTH sets of deal-killing fanatics, not just one set.
A more important question for Ahmadinejad might have been: What good does it do the Iranian people to have its government continually lie and cheat on its international nuclear agreements?

Nothing new here. IRanian officials have consistently stated that they will accept whatever the Palestinians accept.
