Bernie Madoff and the Russian Mob
In January I wrote that Bernie Madoff's operation looked like it was laundering a lot of mob money. This morning a very well connected intelligence source told me that Madoff's sons turned him in because he had lost so much money owed to Russian mobsters that they figured the only way Bernie was going to live was in government protection.

Certainly possible but... kind of foolish to send some one to prison in order to keep them safe from being killed by a mafia, don't you think?

So destor, are you saying you wouldn't buy this as a movie premise? Sorry, call me cynical, but something makes me suspicious we readers are being used as a focus-group, subconsciously if not consciously. If not the Russian mob thing, you've got to have some kind of drama between the sons and the father, they can't just be the same kind of garden variety crooks, that would be boring. I guess I'd watch it on HBO, but I wouldn't pay for a movie theater ticket....

You have some pretty strong accusations. But I fail to see the evidence you have that there were mob ties? OK - diPascali sounds Italian, and maybe he's from a mob neighborhood in Queens. But how about some more evidence. Did your "source" give you any leads or did he/she just tell you Madoff lost money for Russian mobsters? You've gotta do better than just say "it came from a reliable source".
Other "reliable sources" told us things like Sarah Palin wasn't the mother of her baby Trig.

Medical records are one thing to know that a person is "physically fit" for the job. But I'm talking about rumors that Palin is not the mother of her baby and it's a cover-up because she doesn't want people to know that Bristol is the mother of Trig. That's a lot different than having Palin's medical records
