Our Guide-Rush Limbaugh

user-pic

The literal translation of "Fuhrer" is "guide" and the Conservative's Guide, Rush Limbaugh, applied his iron handed discipline to yet another wayward Republican. In January it was Georgia's weasel, Rep. Phil Gingrey. Now the new RNC Chairman is forced into the Limbaugh Bootlicking routine.

The new chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, apologized to Rush Limbaugh on Monday after describing him in a television interview over the weekend as an "entertainer" who made incendiary and sometimes ugly remarks, party officials said.

I know many of you, like Steele before his forced "reeducation", think that Limbaugh is merely an entertainer. But I think he is more dangerous than that--a demagogue of the kind that H.L. Menken defined as "one who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots."

Like all demagogues, there could come a point in the next few years, if unemployment had climbed to 12%, when Rush's search for scapegoats to satisfy the bloodlust of his unemployed brownshirt dittoheads could be truly dangerous. Until then, he is just the Fuhrer--the guide--and Republican politicians ignore his guidance at their peril.

Well-said. He's more Father Coughlin than Newt Gingrich.
In the 30's, FDR was able to contain the fascist right through both his sheer deftness and the inability of the right to settle on one figure to rally behind. (Huey Long was their best potential leader but he was a lefty populist type so he didn't count).
But the right now does have one figure and its Limbaugh.
So what's our good fortune? That he is such an incredibly unattractive bloviator. I doubt he can transcend his base.

As an Israeli once said to me, "thank God Arafat doesn't look like Che."

Ever notice the ads on right-wing radio ? Pitched somewhat to the gullible :

Herbal Viagra.

Miracle Baldness Cure.

How To Stop Paying Taxes.

They know their audience ...

I'm happy to see that BrianSkuse has provided this list of sponsors. Please add The International Star Registry as a key advertiser. Should we each name a star after Rush? It's so cool. His name would be forever preserved on a list in the United States Copyright Office!

user-pic

I have heard they suffer from some ailment called “Ditto Head”
What does it mean?
Are there any Commercials about genetic problems?
DNA testing?
If you have ditto head problems, do you have teeth?
Does it run in the family as some genetic problem?
What is the Ditto head, or are they saying little head?

user-pic

Perhaps oddly, Limbaugh has defended himslef in the past by claiming that he's just an entertainer. For some reason he's decided that now is the time to step out from behind that shield.

user-pic

I hope he does come out as the leader of the republican party. I don't think Limbaugh can stand too much close scrutiny. These egomanics always think no one can smell the poo but they reek of it. Anyone remember Larry Craig or Ted Haggard? More importantly does Limbaugh? If the republicans want to fall in behind Limbaugh they are going to surprised at the number of people they are going to lose. By the way, what is it about the Republican party - the party of family values - picking these leaders that have none?

user-pic

Well Gosh, it's nice to see Democrats have finally found their niche.... demonizing opposition voices. Let's see if you folks can accomplish something else besides that, and sheltering tax evaders.

user-pic

Well, but we have that Oval Office niche too, you know.

Happy days.

It is diverting to see that Republicans cannot do anything about The Leader.

Elected Republicans hate His guts, of course, whereas He Himself could not run for dog catcher and win.

The loud scornful irreverent delivery style has taken Him further than He or anyone could have imagined.

But now He is a big fat target for the conventional media to tear apart whenever they get the notion to do so.

The public is in the mood for a Roman Holiday.

Disembowelment of The Leader would suit perfectly.

user-pic

Limbaugh is an obese, drug and viagara addicted hater, who can't seem to make a relationship work (3 times divorced). And THIS is who the republicans bow down to as their leader? He's everything they supposedly abhor and yet they bow down at every turn. Typical hypocrisy of the republicans. Sad really! I wouldn't put it past him to have cheated the IRS time and again as well. I think it's time for the blowhard to have an audit.

user-pic

I think Limp-baugh is just flexing his muscles in a party whose members are all running scared.

I think my father-in-law is a pretty good barometer in this case. He's relatively conservative, pretty "old-school". Voted for Bush twice. Would never vote for Hillary, but actually voted for Obama this time (I'm pretty sure). McCain lost him with the Palin pick.

Anyway, with respect to Limp-baugh, he says, "That guy's dangerous." He thinks it's un-American of Rush to be rooting for Obama to fail, and he genuinely worries about people who would listen to such a person.

So I believe the Republicans bow to the Large One at their peril. Unless their goal is to become a marginalized and semi-regional party with support in the mid-30s, then they need to break away from him. On the other hand, without all those dittoheads, they basically have no chance at all. So it's a conundrum.

I think the Republicans' prospects mirror the financial markets in this respect -- we may be finding a "bottom" now, but it's just as likely that we'll have another leg down.

Rush the Entertainer, or GENOCIDAL PERPETRATOR?

Rush, Limbaugh is following a model that led to Rwandan GENOCIDE.

Using the airwaves, hateful rhetoric was placed alongside the sophisticated use of humor and popular Zairean music.

Widely listened to by the general population, it projected propaganda. It is widely regarded as having played a crucial role in creating the atmosphere that allowed the genocide to occur.

All now say: Ja, mein Fuhrer!

Do you people ever actually listen to yourselves? From the thread....

All now say: Ja, mein Fuhrer! rush: "opposition" ist Verboten!

So let's recap, we have depictions of Limbaugh as a Nazi, genocidal, debauch, animal for slaughter, hypocrite, and last but not least a blowhard. And you narcissistic scolds declare yourselves judge, jury and executioners? Please, you merely expose yourselves as inarticulate louts with nothing to offer but reflexive and aggressive abuse. Tsk. Tsk.

How could anyone call The Leader a blowhard ?

Really now. Poor fellow has no means to defend Himself.

His message of Love has, somehow, fallen on deaf ears.

Shooter, or anyone else, Can you please tell me how you cut and paste and it appears in a box form. Is there an edit capability I am not seeing?

I try to do my writing in Word where I indent individual quotes rather than saying Shooter said.

When I paste it in the comment box and preview before I submit, I can't get the blocks to appear.

Can you please tell me how you cut and paste and it appears in a box form. Is there an edit capability I am not seeing?

Here's how:

Can you please tell me how you cut and paste and it appears in a box form. Is there an edit capability I am not seeing?

In response to Shooter242: Having listened to Rush, I believe he is willfully and fraudulently negligent. His favorite "argument" style is the strawman. His most recent and in my view egregious example is his performance on Saturday, in which he comments about the administration's response to the current financial debacle.

Ending capitalilsm? Ending private ownership? First, those ideas don't show up anywhere in any of the administration's statements on the situation. Secondly, the worst offense I see so far is that the administration is protecting the fake capitalists, or more correctly Casino operators and players, from the losses that they have earned with their execrable wagering with money that was not theirs to bet. The idea of "nationalizing" banks is not to End private ownership, it's intended to protect the existing privately owned financial companies. With material wealth that we have not built yet.

This is the central complaint about Rush: He is lying in order to stir up public support for continued irresponsibility on a massive scale, and knows it.

Capitalism is, strictly, a system where private individuals do not need government permission to own and derive benefit from control of capital resources (including land, equipment, and money for investment).

The idea of playing (russian) roulette with the entire fucking economy is not Capitalism, it is Fraud.

Rush Limbaugh both this and willfully chooses to ignore these facts in his support of the neo-feudal system that he loves so dearly.

user-pic

Well Duh. It's always wise to see what someone does, rather than rely on what someone says. So let's see, higher taxes, universal healthcare, unlimited spending, and yes, sheltering AIG as a money laundering facility, are all a good start on the EU model.
Secondly, the worst offense I see so far is that the administration is protecting the fake capitalists, or more correctly Casino operators and players, from the losses that they have earned with their execrable wagering with money that was not theirs to bet.
Right on, right on, right on. Join the club.
user-pic

Shooter-I hope you are not accusing the original post of ad-hominem attacks. I thought my use of Menken's appraisal of the Rushbo type personality was quite nuanced.

user-pic

Yes I am. Labeling someone "the Fuhrer" is immediately understood to be a reference to the only other person labeled that way. Adolph Hitler.

You have just lumped in an individual, with a mass murdering, nation killing, genocidal maniac.
In addition, there is no way you can tell me or anyone else, it was accidental. Forget Mencken, this is just wrong and I think you owe Limbaugh an apology.

user-pic

Even if he wanted to apologize, he'd probably have to fight his way up the line, of all the others looking to kiss his ring hand or what ever.

Would you prefer we call him, HIS EXCELLENCY?

user-pic

One would first have to dislodge shooter's quivering lips from Rush's sizable derriere in order to make the correct form of apology.

How's that, shooter? Articulate enough for you?

user-pic

It would be "The F..." and neither happened in the blog post. Also, one cannot "lump in" an individual with another individual. Lumping in involves at least one group.

So that's three strikes for your comment!

Trying to make a historical comparison out of bounds only shows a bias on the part of the would-be rule maker/enforcer. Please do better next time you apply for the Umpire's job, Mr. Thug.

Mr Thug? I had thought you to be one of the more reasonable commentors here. Too much to hope for I suppose.

So you think Fuhrer is an appropriate appellation for Limbaugh? Then it would also be appropriate for Obama wouldn't it? Heh. I look forward to seeing what the response to that will be. I was just going to let it lie, but you just had to pile on didn't you. Thanks, you've just provided me with the inspirations to make this an issue beyond this thread. I'll be giving you full credit along with Taplin.

The idea of Rush Limbaugh being some kind of frightening political leader is laughable. His demagogic lies and hate speech are not aimed at gaining actual political power, they are aimed at getting rich. The last thing in the world that Rush Limbaugh wants is to actually get elected to political office, because then he would have to actually work for a living.

Rush Limbaugh is paid by big corporations to sit on his big fat ass and collect an even bigger and fatter paycheck for reading the corporate-sponsored, focus-group-tested scripts that are handed to him. Whatever those corporations want him to say in the interest of protecting their wealth and power becomes Limbaugh's fake, phony, so-called "conservative" talking point of the day.

Rush Limbaugh couldn't care less whether or not Republicans win elections. In fact he probably stands to make more money when Democrats are in power, since it makes the inane "powerful liberal elites" shtick that he preaches to his brain-dead ditto-heads slightly more plausible than when the "powerful elites" running the government are all right-wing Republicans. And frenzied hatred of Clinton or Obama is much more satisfying to his followers than hero-worship of George W. Bush.

The problem for Republicans is that they need Rush Limbaugh, because they need the votes of his ditto-heads, but Rush Limbaugh doesn't need them. Sure, that gives Limbaugh some power over the Republicans. But the only thing Limbaugh is interested in doing with his power is lining his pockets.

user-pic

I think this is all overblown. The Great Bloviator (is that what Steele called him, Great something I know?) is giving the dumber people, misanthropes, the embittered, the nihilists, and the racists out there what they want. Like Hannity, Palin, and O'Reilly, he is tapping a market of stupid, negative people who want to blame someone for their inadequacies. That's a whole lot of who is left among Republicans, and of course they delight in his gassy bloviations: beats rational thinking with all of the pesky facts, background, logic that requires.

I don't see their numbers growing much among tgeh peple mentioned above. Gingrich could be more of a threat, but he isn't much of a fascist, just hard right wing.

user-pic

Republicans may need Limbaugh SA, but I wonder if they are overestimating that 'need'.

Moderates and Independents created the swing in the last two election cycles. Republicans need someone that finds some common ground with the middle. Working with two divisive groups as their 'base' (far right Ditto Heads, and far right Evangelicals) has only driven the middle to the port side of the boat. Just too far out there.

Rush needs to take credit for this great nautical 'listing'. His rants that conservatives in Congress aren't conservative enough only appear to widen the gap.

For many of us in everyday life, it has become easier to cop the new catch phrase...."we'll see how that works out for ya", than to debate anymore.

user-pic

Yawn.

When someone figures out how to put Rick Santelli together with Ron Paul and spins it real good, then you'll have a real enemy.

user-pic

Godwin's Law. You broke it.

Also? "Führer" has an umlaut, just like "Mötley Crüe".

user-pic

Starting out in the first sentence with final probability 1 is not what Godwin was talking about.

I'd also suggest a dose of Nuance to go with your spelling addiction.

Limbaugh is an idiot. I cannot believe that anyone with a single ounce of common sense would care what he says or thinks.

user-pic

Our "concern" is Democrats have a preference for qualified, educated, articulate leaders. The thought that the Republicans might hitch their lemming cart to a totally unqualified ideologue substance abuser who doesn't want to work spurs recent memory.

user-pic

You have to be an idiot to agree with Rush or support 90% of Republican pols. It's just that you have to be more of an idiot to agree with Rush. As a previous poster Brian Skuse pointed out His advertisers like that group of suckers just fine.
