Ah Redbaiting- "Obama's Labor pick has communist ties"

user-pic

The article is from wacko WorldNetDaily, but it's making the rounds of rightwing sites, so assume your average Fox News reader will soon take it as gospel.

And hey-- what was one of the top proofs cited of her connections to the ongoing Communist conspiracy:

Greg Sargent, a writer for the radical left-leaning Talking Points Memo blog quoted Andy Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union, stating the person who best knows Solis is Vice Chair of the DSA Harold Meyerson.
So all you radical left-leaning readers of TPM are just links in the chain to Soviet America. It's only going to get worse, unfortunately, as the paranoia and militia-language on the right wing sites is starting to acellerate.

Well, let's tie up the whole GOP to David Duke and Mark Foley. That'd be fun.

user-pic

ha! Me Da's gonna be soo proud! Venceremos! The people united, will never be defeated! Viva Che! Viva Micky Mao! Viva Obama!

user-pic

I was just telling Fidel on the phone today that this red baiting has got to stop.

user-pic

.

Ha Ha Hah . . .

Good one Dick.

Wait till those paternalistic authoritarian enablers of the far right get a load of this talking point...

Incremental Universalism

I can see Hannity and the gasbag of the radio airwaves having a complete nervous babbling breakdown over that one.

I hope you're warm wherever you are...

What did he say about it?

user-pic

He said: Como esta rojos

user-pic

Oh right wing radio is going to go into full wing nut mode - especially after January 20th.

user-pic

We need to stop being intimidated by the right. I think they're making a huge mistake trying to blame workers for this depression. They've gone over the top on the UAW and I just don't think that's going to sell to the public at large, even those who generally have little respect for unions. You see how the country has been looted by the financial industry and how that is costing people in jobs and retirement security and to blame labor for that is absurd.

Let theme run with the commie labor theme. It's going to kill them.

user-pic

I'm a proud lefty and would love it if it were true that we had a 100% lefty in the cabinet. Unfortunately, we don't. More's the pity, but as for the redbaiting... who cares? Nobody listens to that crap anymore. The only credence those people have is when Democrats and liberals react to their lunacy.

user-pic

(At least the wingnuts are consistent. Since and including Joe McCarthy, guilt by association has been their favored means of across-the-board condemnation of an individual.)

Tying liberals to Marxists/communists, on the other hand, is nuts. Lenin hated liberals, social democrats and of course the bourgeoisie. If nothing else, we can always rely on wingnuts to reveal their ignorance.

Rush Limbaugh today said that she had ties to the Communist Workers Party after expressing how annoyed he is that the media keeps depicting Obama's cabinet picks as "moderate"

No, I don't know why I listened to Rush Limbaugh today. I have no excuse (but it was only for 10 minutes).

user-pic

Communist Workers Party

no no no. Rush, as usual, is confabulating.

it is, as follows:

The Communist Party (The classic, the CP, still Stalinist after all these years.)

The Socialist Workers' Party (note the important use of the plural possessive), the Troskyites.

And multiple variations involving the use of the words "Popular" "People" "Labor" "Front" "Unification" "Unity" "United" etc.

The military-industrial complex has changed course from duping us into an Orwellian state of never-ending war by using the threat of a never ending Cold War to using the threat of a never ending War on Terror. So would the uncritical non-thinkers who are still being duped at least get current with their lack of ability to critically analyze reality.

user-pic

Highly unlikely. The same people who deplore the government as the domestic evil empire are the same people who fall for its rhetoric of the ever-present enemy. Critical thinkers they're not.

user-pic

So raise the scarlet standard high/
Beneath its folds we'll live and die/
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer/
We'll keep the red flag flying here

user-pic

The thing that gets me about all this red scare stuff is that most of the whackjobs touting this stuff don't have any idea what Communism or the red scare is. They are just Scary Words that somebody tells them about on the radio.

But I suppose we might as well get used to this. They've been doing this crap for, what? Six decades now? It's all they've got.

user-pic

"But I suppose we might as well get used to this. They've been doing this crap for, what? Six decades now? It's all they've got."

Actually, it' been longer than that. The first Red Scare was in 1919 launched by Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer's infamous Palmer Raids.

user-pic

Well, really, the Haymarket riots of 1886 led to a whole wave of "red scares" that was used to target a range of lefty institutions like the Knights of Labor. But then, even in the early days of America, being associated with the radical "French Revolution" was an early political attack.

So it's almost in the DNA of American politics.

user-pic

I just got stuck on "radical left-leaning" and couldn't think further.

user-pic

"It's only going to get worse, unfortunately, as the paranoia and militia-language on the right wing sites is starting to accelerate."

If it's only starting to accelerate, then it's going to hit the speed of light at some point, because it was already going about Mach 24.

My guess is that at about the time the FBI finally gets its financial fraud task force up to snuff, it's going to find it has a whole other crime epidemic to worry about: domestic right-wing terrorism.

radical left-leaning readers of TPM

O precious blood of the sweet Baby Jesus, if only that were true...

(I know it's bad manners to piss on your host's shoes, but, ya'know, there's that thing about Josh countencing the War on Iraq, back in the day...)

user-pic

I'm sure if we just Reach Out to them more, and give them a Place at the Table (see: Rick Warren), then they'll stop writing all this nasty stuff, sing Kumbaya with us, and hop right on board the Change Train.

We just haven't done enough of it yet.
