Indicted For Espionage, Steve Rosen Discusses Obama Mideast Policy With Jerusalem Post
Steve Rosen, the top AIPAC honcho under indictment for espionage, is interviewed by the Jerusalem Post on US Mideast policy.
Frankly, I don't think the case against Rosen amounts to that much, although I'm not a lawyer. But he is under indictment for providing US secrets to Israel. He's not exactly a credible source on US policy toward that country.
Truly bizarre. But amusing. I guess an indicted for espionage guy is the best the Jewish right has got these days. And Rosen's new boss, the professional hatemonger, Daniel Pipes.
I love it.

This guy was the definition of a foreign agent, and fought for a decade to get the US to attack Iran for Israel's benefit. The only surprise is that the "special relationship" between the U.S. and Israel didn't prevent this case from becoming public.
His activities were probably part of this bigger effort:

I get that everyone spies on everyone else, I do, I really do. But Israel's guys seem to get caught a lot this is what, the third in the last 8 years?
Can't we break our alliance or extra concessions from them or something?

He's not exactly a credible source on US policy toward that country.
On the contrary, he's extremely credible. Rosen perfectly exemplifies the special relationship between the United States and Israel. How many Americans know who Steve Rosen is, or care whether he is under indictment for espionage?

Why Obama is not in a position to force Israel to do things that oppose its vital interests (BTW-note the facts about the aid the US gives to Israel...civilian aid has ended and all the military aid money is spent in the US and creates American jobs)....

I don't think espionage charges are ever brought lightly MJ. I have no doubt this guy was a real live spy for a foreign country. Frankly, I don't give a damn if it were Great Britain, Israel or Canada. You don't betray your country like that. There's simply no excuse and there should be no mercy. I hope he spends the rest of his life in prison.

Agreed - traitors are damned. For you younger people, look up Jonathan Pollard.

Just read the Wikipedia article about him. Scary stuff. And the US offered immunity to Israel's spies who handled Pollard, instead of immediately threatening to withhold aid. Then Israel didn't even cooperate. Unreal.
And the grand finale:
"The Jerusalem City Council, in support of Pollard, changed the name of a square near the official prime minister's residence from Paris Square to Freedom for Jonathan Pollard Square."

MJ: These comments of Rosen say it all:
"I don't think they are going to find the opportunities for Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking promising, much as they are ready to commit American resources to broker an agreement. They will learn, if they do not already know, that stepped-up American engagement is not a magic wand or the missing ingredient that will somehow transform the situation. Hamas' control of Gaza, its foothold in the West Bank, the radicalism of the "outside" Palestinians, the stockpiles of Kassams, the Iranian role - all this and more will still be there. Abu Mazen represents a minority of all Palestinians, and does not have the credibility to obligate the PLO to concessions that many Palestinians would depict as a sellout. The Obama Administration will pursue a peace process to strengthen Abu Mazen and to meet the minimum needs of regional allies like Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Europeans. But this will reflect a strategy of conflict management rather than a naïve belief that the situation is ripe for conflict resolution. "
Translation: The longer Abbas and the rest of the appeasers have "negotiated" in good faith the less credible they are among their own people. And let's focus our energy on "conflict management," i.e., continuing the Occupation. No one has more precisely stated the neo-Con, Likud world view any better. Thank you, Mr. Rosen, you have show all your cards.

MJ says: "Frankly, I don't think the case against Rosen amounts to that much..."
Can you say why you think that, MJ?
