It all starts with the owner. The Redskins play in an ugly stadium, built before the owner acquired the team, but the price gouging on every good and service, the lack of decent transportation, the terrible sound system, and exploitative ersatz ceremonies make everything seem even uglier. Little reason the team doesn't play better at home than when on the road.

And the owner's choice of the top executive, surely one of the real reasons for Gibbs' sudden and unsettling departure last year, has been proven a failure in a remarkably short time, as the new coach is not demonstrating cool command and the draft choices have been a remarkable bust. No one drafts a punter, but it is inexcusable to draft a punter who can't kick. The place kicker can't kick well either, and almost every team has found someone who can. And the special teams were hurt by the cut of Torrance, which apparently was driven, as were many other decisions, by wanting to avoid cutting more of the dreadful draft choices.

Of course it was inexcusable to draft three receivers in the second round, but it was a firing offense to pick three and have none of them be able to contribute. Just picking randomly from an Internet list would have produced a better outcome than the Redskins obtained.

The future looks bleak. The abrupt trade for Jason Taylor, who has also contributed very little, cost another second rounder, but that won't matter anyhow as long as the current top executive does the pick. The team is aging and replacements are lacking; the bench is astonishingly slim. There is no good correlation between who is paid well and who plays well. The o and d lines are doing as well as their talent permits, and that simply isn't good enough to match up with the top quarter of the league.

Most important, it's hard to believe that the owner will keep the new coach for long. As with the Wizards, it's easier to fire the coach than to admit that the players assembled by management don't measure up. Coach Zorn shows too much emotion, and too little trust in the players. But he is a rookie, and needs time to mature. I doubt that the owner will give that to him.

I will confess. I am long time Dallas Cowboy fan. I had mixed feelings about the Giants v. Redskins. First I wanted the Giants to lose just to have them come back down to earth and I wanted the Redskins to lose because the NFC looks like it is going to be very crowded at the end. A crowded end looks dicey for the Cowboys making it into the playoffs.

The Cowboys and Redskins had it out at each others stadium. Now if we can just beat those pesky Giants at home.

The remaining Cowboys schedule will test if they belong in the playoffs or not.

I was watching the pre game show and two announcers were commenting; one said "Plexico Burris is out with a hamstring injury."

Dec. 8, 1941;

"Pearl Harbor is out of commission due to some naval problems"

That's the Super Bowl champion, 11-1 "crappy" Giants bub ... maybe your chronically underachieving team would like to win its first Super Bowl before you start mouthing off about any of the three senior partners of the NFC East.

Eli Manning:

"I saw an EAGLE up in the sky,
He dropped some whitewash in my eye,
I'm no sissy so I didn't cry,
Gee I'm glad that cows can't fly." :-)

Everyone in DC knows the problem lies with Snyder. They also know Zorn has no future with the Skins, despite actually showing great potential. As soon as Cower says he's available Snyder will shower him with cash and Zorn will move on to a better gig and will come back to kick our ass in the coming years. No doubt.

Also, Jason Campbell is not the future. Despite his occasional moments, he always looks lost out there. Let's face it, you've been playing at least since high school, through college and in the NFL for 4 years and you still need a coach to teach you how to throw a ball while dodging players and a special baseball coach to teach you how to slide... and you still can't get it! Seriously. Put Todd Collins in and let's try to salvage the season. In the off season get a real quarterback and let Zorn work him.

That won't happen of course. Little Danny Snyder will continue to make stupid moves that will hurt the team, keeping them frustratingly mediocre at best.

Ugh.

In addition to all the other horribles, the stadium generates hideous traffic on the Beltway. Yesterday, a rainy Sunday after Thanksgiving, it was no picnic for travelers. Thanks, Redskins!
