Dr. Frum's Prescription
The Old Bob Dylan line, "When you ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose."must have been roaming around conservative pundit David Frum's skull in the last couple of days. Rarely does a partisan tell the leader (and Presidential Candidate) of his party, "the emperor has no clothes."
I could pile up the poll numbers here, but frankly . . . it's too depressing. You have to go back to the Watergate era to see numbers quite so horrible for the GOP.McCain's awful campaign is having awful consequences down the ballot. I spoke a little while ago to a senior Republican House member. "There is not a safe Republican seat in the country," he warned. "I don't mean that we're going to lose all of them. But we could lose any of them."
In the Senate, things look, if possible, even worse.
So Frum's basic plan is to abandon the Presidential race, retreat and fight a Geurrilla War from a base of 41 Republican Senators. Take all the money you can out of advertising McCain and Palin and try to save a couple of Republican Senate Seats!
It boggle's the mind.

I loved reading that today. I sent it to all my conservative friends with my favorite bits highlighted. It was awesome. Can't wait to read their pained responses tomorrow.
In the meantime, let's keep up the enthusiasm, fight republican voter suppression, and hand them the beat down they so roundly deserve!~!~!~ HOORAH!!

boggles, even... :)
I'll pass along something I was just pointed to recently that I found pretty damn funny...
Shrum is only being logical here. The writing's on the wall - and you have to wonder who in their right mind actually donated to the McCain campaign in this last month? I mean, he must have been blackmailing them or something...

I have no sympathy for McCain, but he should have spent campaign time and money separating himself from Bush. Bush was an albatross and McCain and Palin didn't show how they were different. Polls showed people wanted change but as usual McCain has been mostly silent on new initiatives. He's old and tired and out of ideas and Palin is scary.
Not surprising that Frum and many others are running from the McCain campaign. A post-mortem will likely show that McCain lost this race between March and July when the Democrats were battling it out. He screwed up on his staff selections, planning for the general election and his VP pick. University students in campaign management classes should have fun analyzing the McCain vs the Obama campaign organizations.
Obama and his staff have run a disciplined and well thought out campaign full of new ideas and initiatives. Obama has shown steadiness and maturity. I look forward to the Obama Administration where good policies and not ideology will be the guiding factor.
It's not over yet, there are still nine tough days ahead until November 4th. In the end the polls don't count, the votes do.

observer: And when Republicans (like J. Kenneth Blackwell) are involved, sometimes even the VOTES don't count. :)
So let's kick their a$$es!! (Or is it ass's as per rationalcauses above?...)

you might want to add the word "Relentless" to your description of the Obama campaign
one article I read last month pointed out how Obama's advertising spending was increased 20% a week for about the past 10 weeks or something like that, and the plan was to have a steady incraese from July clear up to the election
the plan was about total domination from beginning to end
but we need to be careful
Obama's campaign has really impressed the wingnuts
the fundie mouthbreathers already have dreams of recreating Obama's innertubes money machine for princess pandora in 2012

you accept what the frumpler says at face value
that's a mistake with this slimy pond scum
notice that frumpler whines about the fairness doctrine, and the meanies at msnbc ???
that's the new conservative talking point
frumpler is laying down markers for his move to the new conservative party, whatever that is
princess pandora palin is consolidating her power amongst the mouthbreathing repuglitards
smart repuglitards, like frumski, recognize that the party is over for the gop
princess pandora has an appointment with a cliff in 2012, and frumpski wants to be a leader of those who survive
frumpler knows where the real money is ...

Heck . . .
Is their a spare sock in the laundry basket available to stuff in the pie-hole of Frum the self-serving rhetoric machine?
If there is even an outside chance that that Dylan song could be bouncing around inside that vacant skull of Mr. David "I came up with the 'axis of evil' line" Frum-- then I wonder if Dave could decipher the following refrain from Oman's favorite Dylan tune, Maggie's Farm?
Now keep in mind the O'man's words when asked about his favorite songs:
Heh . . .

My, how fascist of you. Like censorship much?
Rosenberg has a post on how commentary from a right wing site is representative of the mainstream.
I think this post and those of free patriot above will have to be considered representative of the mainstream left. Tsk.

JohnW1141 to shooter; Someone who claims that the comment;

is fascist censorship.

Don't underestimate the determination of the right wing to exploit the economic crisis. Obama is well into transition planning, and so is the right wing. Frum was rallying the survivors; setting the stage for their fight from day one. There is a tendency for all to relax for a while after what has been a grueling two years. As a less than talented cross country ski racer, I remember my coach telling me what it would take for me to win. "When you get to the top of the hill, and they relax," he said, "that's when you take'em." That is the right wing strategy now. Don't relax; it's not over.

If the Repubs can actually hold on to 41 senators, they can block almost anything Obama wants to do. The Senate rules are custom made for obstructionism, and Repubs have never failed to take advantage of that. In other words the war is still on.

hoppy,
truly, but lets not forget the "maverick" who works across the aisle; I'm sure President Obama will be able to rely on him to continue his mavericky ways after next January.
