Congratulations to Paul Krugman
Paul Krugman's Nobel Prize is wonderful news. It appropriately honors his work as an economist -- and it will have the salutory effect of enhancing his impact as a public intellectual at a key juncture in US and world history. When it was not at all fashionable, we all need to remember, Krugman consistently spoke against the mendacity of the Bush administration. He correctly predicted the disasters in foreign and economic policy to which that administration's horrendous and corrupt decisions would lead. Bravo to him -- and thanks to the Nobel committee.

Congratulations Dr. Krugman!
And thanks for being the voice of sanity the past several weeks.

How nice that an unabashed liberal should win particularly on a day like today when Bush is reduced to being rescued by the actions of "old Europe".

The Nobellers have partially redeemed themselves by awarding Krugman. I still can't totally forgive them for awarding Friedman.

wtf.
Neither award was made for political ideology.
If you have not appreciation of Friedman's role in economics how can you appreciate anyone's

Good post Theda and I agree 99%.
The other 1% is that even you and I have been correctly predicting, that a litany of disasters would follow Team Bush in their temerarious handling of foreign, domestic and economic policy.

Congratulations, Professor Krugman! I hope that Paul will continue to enlighten us with the clarity of his explanations about the economy, especially during this crisis.

Krugman has taken heat from the right and the 'left' if you can call the Clintonistas that, for more than a decade. And his columns have been ahead of the curve for years--but it was his academic work that has been recognized by the committee, not his popular columns--and serve to validate the very real academic credentials that qualify his opinions.
Most of this crap you read in popular media is just that crap from crapulous hacks. Krugman actually knows what the hell he is talking about. And if you disagree with him, fine, but you know the foundation on which he rests. And it is then possible to have a principled disagreement--which is increasingly rare in our debased discourse.

Hats off to Professor Krugman. He has had many academic economists differ with him, only to later sign on.

A well-deserved honor, Dr. Krugman. Congratulations to you, sir.

I learned on the Lehrer newshour last night that Krugman was inspired to become an economist from reading the Foundation Trilogy in high school -- very cute!
Here's my collection of some columns from the past 6 years in which he successfully predicted our current financial crisis:
