All Praise to Paul Krugman
As it happens, when I went into government in 1993 I started reading Krugman and have now read almost all of his books and almost all of his popular writing. I haven't read all his scholarly papers!
As a policy maker and inveterate if occasional adviser to policy makers, I have never found an economist who made more sense, gave more guidance, provided more timely and useful advice than Paul Krugman.
All praise to him and the committee that singled him out for the Nobel: a noble choice indeed.

I think the choice of Krugman is tremendous, and I note that--as with choosing Al Gore last year--the Nobelistas give yet another "finger in the eye" to the Bush Administration! tks rich

Oh, is that where that finger was pointing? {evil grin}

Paul Krugman's columns and books are written in such a way as to make economics understandable for the layperson. It doesn't surprise me that the Nobel committee recognized his academic work for the triumph it is... but it pleases me no end that they did so before the Bush administration is laid to rest.

I love Krugman! A great joy to see he won the prize. I also can't help but think, knowing how the Swedes often let themselves be swayed by politics, that they rewarded him not just for his specialty area but also for his political astuteness and courage. (I see Elipse#9 above has similar thoughts - expressed more delightfully!)

It must be a coincidence that two weeks before the scheduled awarding of the prize Krugman suddenly discovers that he hasn't "been clear enough about" the wonders of "Swedish-style temporary nationalization" as the "right answer to a financial crisis."
Well; no one ever said that praising the intellects and imaginations of the financiers and economists who are on the award panel hurt one's prospects.

I know nothing about economics and Mr. Krugman always makes it easier for me to understand.
Congratulations to Mr. Krugman on your Nobel prize. It's well deserved.

I have enjoyed reading Paul Krugman's work in the times, as well as his thoughtful, slightly maddening (almost too much reality!) books. He is a gem in America, one of the intellectuals that the Republican Party has derided for the last decade plus. Congratulations on a well deserved honor. I hope that you and Mr. Gore can bask in the fact that you two, and not the idiots who have been running our government, are recognized for your intelligence, integrity and constancy. Well done!

Big Ups! to Paul Krugman. He was kind enough to reply to a reply I sent him about an article he wrote about the economy and its influence how voters made political decisions in Ohio during the 2004 election.
