Yitzhak Rabin's Widow On Incitement And Those Who Allow It

user-pic

I am not worried about Barack Obama. I trust the Secret Service and I believe it is not the same institution it was in 1963.

However, incitement is still incitement, even if it leads to no horrific consequences. John McCain and his moll is guilty of deliberate incitement and he clearly is indifferent to where it may lead.

There are historical precedents. Read what Mrs. Rabin had to say and draw your own conclusions.

Has there ever been a candidate as indifferent to the well-being of America as John "Country Last" McCain? As for the media which sees what McCain is doing and does not raise a word of protest, they are complicit with a campaign of hate and incitement.

freedom of speech is freedom of speech. obama is a a very close friend of Bill Ayers and Bernadine dorhn! Bill ayers is a self proclaimed accomplished Killer/ Bomber and Bank Robber!!! bernsdine dorhn spent 7 years in the slammer for killing my cousin in the Brinks Robbery in the Bronx on June 2nd, 1981, so what say you abut all these facts about Obams pals' past? how about Kathy Boudin? another one of Obamas close friends! she spent 30 years in the slammer for the Bronx Brinks Murder/maiming. her son Chesa, was raised by Ayers/Dorhn!!!! Obama is close to alot of unsavory characters, more so than any other Presidential candidate in the history of the USA! so whats your point bud? You think the Secret Service can be used to stifle dissent and Free Speech? i think not! The Secret Services job is to protect these politicians and i dont know anyone who would be foolish enough to say or do them harm!!! They might as well suicide themselves!!! But realistically, Obama is unqualified for the job of President of the USA. Biden is actually more qualified based on the fact that he doesn't have any noteworthy terror connections, unlike Obama. Hey now that you mention the Secret Service, why don't they investigate Obama for the fraudulent use of the Annenberg Foundations cash? that would give them some extra work, but in the end we will have a conclusion that Obama is a Fraud a Fake and a Phoney Baloney, masquerading as the candidate for change. ya change to a Terrornation! the Obamination!!! seems you are suggesting that the secret service can be used so people will stop talking about Bill Ayers, Dorhn, Rescko,Wright? concerned that all this bad publicity will give MCCain the win? haha hopefully!!!! hopefully America will wake up and realizethat Obama hangs with WHite Haters such as Ayers and Dorhn and Flager andWright and of course Obama himself! He seethes with rage at his white momma for kicking himto his parents. i'm not suprised . Obama was smoking pot etc when he became a teenager and his momma got tired of it!!
Mccain for President!!

This commentary by "Hot Guy" is a prime exhibit "A" to illustrate my comment that follows.

Yeah - you can practically see the spittle on the screen and the drool on the keyboard.

The only group left supporting McLame are the same wackos we've seen in vid lined up to get into one of those Beer Hall Putsch Rallies of theirs.

Every word in your post is a lie including the conjunctions and pronouns.

We can do that too.

did you know that john mccain was with richard nixon in the oval office when nixon decided to burn the tapes. nixon said no, it wouldn't be right but mccain said that otherwise nixon would be charged. so nixon tasked mccain to break into the office of daniel ellsberg's psychiatrist. on the way back he met wirh gordon liddy who isa now an active mccain supporter and discussed bombing the brookings institution. liddy showed mccain how he could hold a lit match between his thumb and forefinger which he learned at a meeting of the german american bund in 1943. also why did mccain call his wife the c-word on a bob hope christmas special in 1982.

Now MJ, don't forget about McCain's reports to his Soviet handlers while he was in the Hanoi Hilton!

No, Hot Guy, freedom of speech carries with it specific responsibilities, one of which is to refrain from incitement to violence. You may think you have an unbridled right to say or write whatever you wish, but you live in a society of laws that its reasonable citizens have agreed to follow.

I'm sorry you lost your cousin, but this experience should make you realize that violence never solves anything. Of course you're angry, but anger doesn't absolve you of the responsibility to use your freedom of speech in a reasonable and informed way.

Ultimately, we are all responsible only for our own actions, not for the actions of people we meet. Senator Obama did not commit terrorist acts, Senator Obama did not misappropriate Annenberg funds, and your saying that he did might be running you up against another legal abridgment of free speech: the laws against slander and libel.

Be angry all you want, but think before you speak.

Hate speech is dangerous and irresponsible. It not only interferes with the kind of discussion that makes democracy possible, it also sometimes incites people to commit terrible acts.

All Americans, including religious leaders and thoughtful Republicans, need to denounce McCain and Palin for encouraging and accepting the hateful and racist speech of some of their supporters. Using the "n" word, calling Obama a terrorist, this kind of speech only incites more hatred. It needs to be strongly discouraged from every direction before it turns a campaign rally into a raging mob.

Shouting fire is a crowded theater is not protected speech. Inciting violence is not protected. McCain and Palin know exactly what they are doing. Hitler knew what he was doing when he worked up the crowds in Germany against the Jews. It was intentional, and it is vicious, and it is inexcusable.

Obama is not a very close friend of Ayers. There is zero evidence of that. Ayers was hand-picked by REPUBLICAN Reagan-appointed Ambassador Annenberg to sit on the same board as Obama, which is how Obama met him. But, hey, don't let facts get in the way of your racist, smear-mongering, psychotic, drug-induced blather.

Supporting evidence of everything you have ranted about please.

Keep it up HotGuy. After the 1968 Democratic convention, one in which the over-riding theme was anger and hatred - in that case against the Vietnam War - droves of Democrats left the Party. The result? Five of the six next presidential elections went to the Republicans.

If you're a Republican, you should take note that anger and hatred can, and historically seem to, come back to bite you in the ass.

Are you really suggesting that it is off limits to talk about Barack Obama's association with Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers?

How many candidates for president could have had even the most fleeting association with figures as controversial as these men and survive?

The problem seems to me to be that, until they were in desperate straits, none of Obama's opponents dared talk about something that in any other candidate would have been thrown in his face since day one. The media as it did in the lead up to the war in Iraq has been derelict in their functions.

All of this should have been looked at carefully by the media during the primaries and even before. Now, when it is too late, it is all going explode in last minute sewer politics.

Where the hell have you been? Mars?

user-pic

No, people have been nibbling around this, but finally have avoided it in fear of appearing racist: So when it finally explodes in takes the form of racism.

user-pic

You're either totally out of touch, or a knowing liar, Seaton. The media has thorughly investigated and refuted all the bogus fake outrage over the non-existent Obama-Ayers relationship.

The only ones making issue of that nonsense now are racist thugs.

"Stalinist?" No, asshole: indivdiuals concerned with the facts, and with challenges slugs such as yourself who continue to repeat that you by now KNOW are lies.

You're a waste of skin. And it isn't "Stalinist" -- cute smear, asshole -- to state that fact.

What imaginary universe are you inhabiting? The Nexis database found 4500 news stories about Obama & Ayres this year. There were more than 1800 this week alone.

Unfortunately, there has not been equal attention given to Palin's association with the Alaska Indepedence Party and McCain's long association with G. Gordon Liddy- our very own, home grown terrorists. Both had stronger ties to these nuts than Obama's affiliation with Ayres.

Your whining reeks of desperation. Obama no more endorses Ayres behavior in the 1960's than McCain endorses Liddy's felonies. The Palins & AIP, however, deserve further scrutiny. There as been none.

More intellectually dishonesty, David. This was exhuastively covered during the primaries and dismissed as character assassination and guilt by association. Which is exactly why it will have zero effect now other than to rile up the ignorant mouth-breathers who can be found in every crowd. Which is what this post was about.

Wright's statements have been pulled out of context. The man and his church is way more than occasional two or three minute rants over a 30 year career. Obama has publicly denounced the man and his more incendiary ideas. He gave a very intelligent and nuanced speech about tghe issue too.

Ayers, despite his sorted past, is now a respected member of the Chicago non-profit community and a college professor. They were on the same board together and have never been friends. Obama has no history of believing or advocating the same sorts of things Ayers did in his younger days. Again, this question has been asked and answered long before now.

You need to quit writing stuff like this if you want us to take your more intelligently researched comments and blogs seriously.

user-pic

How many candidates have had their own paratrooper force? Personally - I find private armies more controversial than interactions with inflammatory figures who forcefully enunciate criticisms of their country.

Are you kidding? All of Chicago, Republicans and Democrats, have associations with Ayers. A Republican Reagan-appointee is the one who introduced Obama to Ayers. Bill Clinton invited Rev. Wright to the White House. There is picture of the two of them there together; he wasn't a fringe figure before February of this year. McCain has numerous suspect associations, from Charles Keating to John Singlaub. Numerous. But people are less likely to assume the worst about a white man. And that's a fact.

The problem seems to me to be that, until they were in desperate straits, none of Obama's opponents dared talk about something that in any other candidate would have been thrown in his face since day one.
Astute observation, sir -- and exactly correct. Unfortunately for you, very few others are your intellectual equals -- and those of us who are, have been bought-off by the Obama Conspiracy.

In a nushell, YOU ARE SCREWED -- and we conspirators are taking immense pleasure in your lonely, impotent, seething rage.

...have a blissful day,

LK

Geez, Michael... looks like this has turned into early troll-bait. Can that vile Vlad be far behind??

For what it's worth, I'll never forget that dark day as long as I live. When news arrived of Rabin's assassination I was immediately struck by thought analogous to 'the day the music died' - albeit of obvious political connotation.

That is when I knew -just knew- that Clinton's unprecedented efforts to move the ball forward in the mideast was going to be for naught; that the forces of hatred, ignorance, and darkness would ultimately prevail.

But -geez- even I had no way of envisioning the depth and breadth that darkness would ultimately extend.

Excellent food-for-thought post, M. Grazi.

I think the connection between Obama and Rabin is wildly far fetched... I am reminded of when Lloyd Bentsen told Dan Quayle "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy".

Funny, I was reminded of when Jessie Helms said Clinton better have Secret Service with him if he came to North Carolina. Vile vitriol has long been part of the Republican platform. But only works during times of peace and prosperity. We have real problems now and the last thing we need is another right-wing select like George Bush. So, maybe all you trolls can move to Alaska with Caribou Barbie!

No, it's a good and valid comparison. And your Lloyd Bentsen shtick is a non-sequitur, and frankly bizarre.

What both Leah Rabin and MJ (yibadel l'haim aruchim) are talking about is supression of free speech against their political opponents. Neither McCain nor his political supporters wants any harm (G-d forbid) to Obama or his supporters. Howver, if someone believes that his election as President would endanger the US (as you MJ feel about McCain) he has every right to say what he thinks in order to warn the voters, which is exactly what you are doing about McCain. Bringing up a candidate's character and past associations is very legitimate and goes all the way back to the beginnings of the US. No one has a "right" to be President. They have a right to try and also the citizens have a right to choose and decide based on the information they have about the candidates.

During the mass terror that Stalin unleashed in the USSR during the 1930's, it was argued that expression of any opposition to Stalin AUTOMATICALLY meant that the person expressing this opposition wanted Stalin dead, so therefore the must extreme punishments were warranted against such a person (death penalty or long years in a GULAG concentration camp in Siberia). Perhaps Leah Rabin felt the same way..that all expressions of opposition to Rabin and the Oslo Agreements should have been suppressed. However, in Israel, the long ruling Labor Party had a problem tolerating expressions of opposition to their rule. This is not the case in the US, where any hint of suppression of freedom of speech traditionally triggered a reaction to prevent this violation of a sacred American right. Interestingly enough , it was usually the "progressives" who were the first to stand up in opposition to attempts to silence people. Thus, I find it odd that a "progressive" like MJ should demand silencing people and the fact that someone like Leah Rabin who came from a very different background than Americans do does not serve as a good precedent.

user-pic

I have always found a little odd, the way Obamites pile on anyone who dares question "The One". Stalinist? Perhaps that is overdoing it.

I've always found it how Obama haters would like for everyone to believe that their innuendos are only questions. If Obama supporters were as stupid as McCain supporters you might have had some luck with that.

user-pic

There's a substantive difference between "daring to question" and accusations of treason and permitting exhortations of violence.("Kill him." is clear advocacy of deadly violence.)
The Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld restrictions on speech of this type - try Googling "speech fighting words" or "speech clear and present danger".

It's truly despicable that you would lightly compare the next President to history's greatest mass murderer. You oughtta wipe the smile off your self-satisfied face, reflect upon your shame, and get a life.

No, the point is not a "freedom of speech" issue, but in McCain's campaign inciting his audience to violence based on fabricated innuendo!
As for Ayers, Obama's association with him is from being on a board of education of the Annenberg Foundation! It is a Republican run organization also connected to Readers Digest! Are you saying that all those other republicans and Readers Digest are terrorist sympathizers?
THis is the idiocy of this terrorist charge!
Ayers is a charitable, contributing member of his community in Chicago, not a terrorist. The terrorists are the ones who go on the campaign trail and incite others to violence and hate and prejudice like McCain, his wife, and Sarah Palin!

No kidding, Fireshadow.

My Mom once told me that she dated "an Annenberg" while she was in prep school. I asked her what that was, and she replied, "Oh, they run the Treasury Department". Not exactly a bunch of bomb-throwers, the Annenbergs.

Guilt by association is fraught, because - if you look deeply enough - anyone with a public life, or even a wide circle of acquaintance, can be made out to be tainted. My own dear "auntie" (not a relation, just a close family friend) used to run gun-money to the IRA. She was one of those deluded Americans who thought they were "freedom fighters". By the time I knew her, she had severed the connection, but still proudly showed off a leather purse she had which was made by "the boys in the Kesh". Does this make me a terrorist? I sure hope not. If so, drinking tea and making quilts with old ladies is now a terrorist activity, and we're all in trouble. . .

The extent of the corruption of key institutions -the financial industry, the Media, the GOP, the Congress, the President, and a significant part of the electorate itself - has been laid bare. I think the rest of the country is in shock.
