This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, children health indeed.
I'm nervous!
Is it over yet?
Yes
It makes me mad, why oh why should we feel this nervous when the opponent is an obvious idiot?
Joe, please...
it's over before it began
I'm hoping for a train wreck. Is that unamerican?
I can't watch. It's too awful.
It's American, we love tabloid blotter
For once I wish I had a TV. Just listening on NPR.
Can I call you Joe?
Half a point for Palin.
-- ARG
She's gonna call him Joe...
That's nice...
So it begins
Introduced her as Governor Palin and then just "Joe" Biden. No slight there, am glad it wasn't the other way around.
kiss it Joe
Hey guys, this is my 1st post, I am on here all the time. I feel like I know you guys.
Do you have that twenty bucks you owe me?
Hello. I have been reading a long time too, even if I do not comment much. Anyway, nice to see you, Josh.
Soccer?
Joe was ready for the bailout question.
So is Palin -- soccer mom.
-- ARG
Has this been a good time or a bad time in the economy? Good question if you don't know anything.
Ok, before all of this is over, her accent is going to drive me INSANE.
Should we start a "betcha" counter?
"Betcha" count indeed. How about a tally of these as well: "gosh darn," "up there," and "also, too." My beginning speech students know this stuff as garbage and filler. And don't even get me started about NUCULAR.
My first post, by the way. You regulars crack me up!
She already brought up the hockey rink.
Oversight? Seriously?
huh? Off on a tangent at the gates? Oversight from a repug?
She's quivering...and really not comfortable.
Heh, I am too.
:/
They're both wearing flag pins!
Don't let 'em hear you sigh, Joe!
-- ARG
Oh god, the soccer mom thing...
she is nervous
suspending his own campaign. . .I thought that was debunked. . .
"SUSPENDED HIS CAMPAIGN"... BIG "PERCEPTION" DROP AT THOSE WORDS.
Is she always going to begin with Biden? Better if Palin is first I think.
Joe's being to techie
the joe line was good....
So far Biden focusing on McCain and Bush - that's good.
Neither of them are looking at the other. Uh oh. Then again, they seem to have never met? How odd.
oh I'm a fundamental!
OMG, she just winked at America.
Is Palin reading off index cards?
She WINKED at ME!
I seriously can't deal, and watching the ballgame instead. Please let me know if it's safe to wade in.
She's spouting a script. Oh dear, oh dear.
Is that what it was? I thought maybe they had swapped her with a robot.
Not fair to Palin that she has to defend McCain's ridiculous "the fundamentals are the workers" statement.
-- ARG
Why does this remind me of the Winona Ryder trial?
Five minutes in, she's a different person from those interviews.
That's sorta true, but she also sounds to me like the "Disclaimer Voice" at the end of a radio spot, like she's trying to cram in a memorized line before the end of a 30-second cutoff...
Wow! what a sexy answer!
Palin appears to be well-scripted at this point...
She's really showing signs of being quite over-coached. She's already used her worn out cliches and catch-phrases. "soccer game" "you betcha" "darn right" (twice already!)...
You know, this is not good - she is looking directly into the camera and coming off very sincere.
SLOW. MOVING. TRAIN. WRECK!
Joe Sixpack count: 1
-- ARG
Ooooh she invokes "Joe Six-Pack"
Lila -
did you find any women economists yet?
Am I at the wrong debate....sounds more like a PTA debate
When the hell was Palin ever exploited by predatory lenders, or wall street for that matter?
Biden needs to loosen up. He seems tense. Don't overthink this thing.
Holy shit...she's loaded for moose with slogans
When will Joe pull out, "I'd like to know what Gov. Palin thinks about that..."
She's been given rhyme and verse on this subject.
Darn right? Heck? Hurtin'? Downhome 6 pack lingo?
How can you have a "team of mavericks"? That's like the Union of Lone Gunmen.
I was thinking Clydesdales when she said that.
LOOK AT THE CAMERA, JOE!
Simplistic answers to simplistic problems. Not real world. All make believe.
She's so over-practiced and stiff. Joe is flowing.
Biden's doing a good job contrasting McCain and Obama... I just wish he's relax a bit.
Christ did I choose the wrong drinking game word. Tomorrow will be difficult.
I think Biden's affect is intentional. Non-threatening, not letting himself get worked up.
Pop Quiz: Who wins in a fight, Joey Danko or Joe Six-Pack?
She seems a little nervous; she's speaking quickly, maybe a little too quickly.
Biden is a little slower in response, which I think is good.
So far Biden seems a little more specific.
Palin doing better than the Couric interview.
She's already won the debate. I'm just saying.
She's getting sarcastic and nasty already. It's only been 15 minutes!
She's got a real nasty attitude. That face she makes as she's talking scares me worse than Chucky.
Unfortunately, I don't think it matters. Her sarcasm isn't as cutting as McCain's and doesn't come across as particularly nasty. Her folksy manner wears well too. She comes off as completely reasonable and not at all dumb.
I'm drinking every time I see the Irish smile. Yeaaah, baby.
Why drink then? I find it totally intoxicating all on its own.....
Nice switch from regulation to tax relief
She's not screwing up. So she's exceeding expectations. Joe needs to counter-punch these "facts" she's spewing.
-- ARG
She has no clue what goes on in Washington and her resolutions are childish.
Now, she's lying. Damn, why do they keep repeating this lie!
Ooooh, someone called her out!
that's right Joey - call her out!
Thank you Joe!
Awesome gas tank anecdote...
THAT's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
477 times! Woo-hoo!
-- ARG
Hit her on her track record...troopergate
Obama and Biden voted for the highest tax increase in US history!!!!
I think I've officially drifted into La La Land.
They told her it doesn't matter if you answer the question.
Exactly.
She is supposed to answer next about taxing health benefits. What are the odds on that?
I'm not going to answer the questions like you want!
Gwen throws herself in front of the firehose, YES!
The Ifill defense rears its head! It's a vast left wing conspiracy.
SHE DIDN'T ANSWER - THIS WILL BE HER TACTIC (OR IS THAT A STRATEGY?)!!!
She's gettin' a bit fiesty. Interesting to watch the meter on CNN.
Ifill: Why is that not "class warfare"?
WTF?
Yeah, the question now is can she play for 4 quarters? She may run out of cliche's before too long.
-- ARG
She's not really working with cliches. She's working with prepared answers. I think she'll manage.
Agreed.
-- ARG
Here it comes. The wheels are about to come off. Biden showing compassion, Palin starting to show signs of nervousness and defensiveness...
Argh, I'm still trembling.
She's reading index cards
It doesn't matter if she's using index cards. It's working. She's coming off as credible.
We have a different value set" -- also nice.
Ok his tax answer is good. He's very sincere on it.
Here it comes. The wheels are about to come off. Biden showing compassion, Palin starting to show signs of nervousness and defensiveness...
i may be biased, but Biden doing well...
Joe pulls out Ronnie Reagan. Nice.
Wait, did SP just say that "redistribution of wealth" is bad?
The American People are not Patriotic!
This is how it was in Alaska during the governor debate. She says whatever she wants, no matter the question.
She's calling him out now - isn't that against the rules???
Yeah, Palin, because Trickle-Down has worked soooo well.
Who is she to define patriotism?
Sometimes, I speak to my government, too... I say "Government, what the fuck?"
Inchoate....Rage...RISING!! How can the governor of the #1 pork-per-person state say that GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM??? :-X
Men are rating her higher, and women giving higher points to Biden?!?
It's because she's SOOOOO gorgeous... just ask the President of Pakistan...
What the hell is 5K going to buy ANYONE!!! A co-pay?
McCain' $5,000 health credit is half what it will cost.
She has ready answers.
Agree with you upthread. She's won, based on the expectations coming in.
Biden's doing fine. But that was already expected.
-- ARG
On the contrary, she is clearly quoting her coached lines. That's not a win, that's regurgitating. And she is not winning on content and using her "down-home" talk.
Dude (or dudette), all I'm saying is that the bar was set so low for McPalin that if she doesn't come out and drool all over herself tonight, she'll be declared the winner. (She's not convincing me, BTW.)
-- ARG
Am I mistaken that Obama's health plan DOES NOT include a large nationalized plan?
OK I just logged on, but did anyone else notice SP responding to something while Joe was talking about Obama's tax plan...as though somebody else had spoken to her? Watching the split screen on CSPAN
isn't a debate where you have to answer or debate the questions? why does she get to use this as an infomercial?! WTF?
Hit 'em HARD on that tax on healthcare bennies, Joe!!
-- ARG
Palin is a one-woman misinformation campaign.
Damn, he's good.
BRIDGE TO NOWHERE!
OW! ULTIMATE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE!
Boo ya, "straight to the insurance company," you tell 'em Joe! He is so good with the facts and figures, very Kitchen Table-y...
"Ultimate Bridge to Nowhere," sweet!!
ultimate bridge to nowhere!!!
Bridge to Nowhere! POW!!!!!!
bitchslapped!
"Ultimate bridge to nowhere..." good one!
'the ultimate bridge to nowhere' audible laughter
nice.
Hahaha! The crowd couldn't keep the laughter inside.
He killed her on the health plan response. Great job!
Ultimate bridge to nowhere..now we see why McCain fought to limit the back and forth...
This is sooo much more engaging than the Presidential debates. Gotta say it.
Ok, Biden is relaxing now and he's getting much better.
I hope Palin falls apart when they get to foreign policy.
So far, everything Palin has said is general without specifics or details
CSPAN is the best way because of the split screen. She seems snarky, not confidant. He is stepping on his tongue a bit.
but the sound on cspan has reverb bouncing around all over the place...
She did not just say some runnin' with John McCain. Hick.
She's "running with John McCain"? Is she like Natalie Wood in "Rebel Without A Cause"?
Canned responses from Palin. The vegetables are mushy.
wtf....?
Arrrrgh (sorry, can't help shouting)
She's reading off index cards...look at her!
She's goin' off track and as an Alaskan, I can tell you she's lying about what she's done here.
Palin struggles to not say "thanks, but no thanks" to that Oil Company tax break.
Seriously... why does the moose hunter get to just talk about whatever she wants?
I'm not one of your FAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNSSSSS
Is she not answering the questions? Going on to what ever she wants to say. Hope someone notices this in the MSM.
ExxonMobil...bless their hearts..."
Gee, that'll win over the dude who can't fill his gas tank...
Interesting ... neither sex cares for her sarcastic bits.
He's trying to blind her with his teeth. Awkward times to smile, however.
my wife sez palin's just campaigning to keep her job as governor of alaska. ha.
True, her whole political career is in danger now.
She started out good, but she's going downhill fast.
She's Rah Ra'ing - Gwen has to cap that
Palin says she's been at this for 5 weeks - not exactly the best way to answer the question.
PALIN-BOT, Kill it with fire!
She just called for "massive oversight"! Is she for big government or against it?
Put government back on the side of people? I thought she earlier said to get government off the back of the people?
is anyone else sort of confused by the Biden grin?
"bless Exxon..." ??!!!
Hairplugs N Lipstick ...sound like a 80's hair metal band
Good Joe... call them on the facts But no!! Don't say "Agree with..." We DO NOT !
Joe's good on the windfall profits tax -- says that's what Palin did up in Alaska. Strong.
-- ARG
Nice hit on the windfall tax lie...nice to call her out on supporting it in AK, why not convince McCain to do so...
Palin's flag pin is freaking huge.
Is she really reading off index cards?
Does she know how to answer any questions?
Um, no
Head rearin' count: 1
-- ARG
Uh-oh....bleep bleep bleep!! Does not compute!! The talking points endless loop is stuck on repeat!
I liked Biden's emphatic "SIX...HUNDRED...BILLION... DOLLARS"
John McCain is a one-man leader in the Senate.
Oooh, she just got caught out with the bankruptcy bill question. Ha! She won't really answer problem.
AND MAIN ST. IS KILLING WALL ST? Reeeally?
"crisis on main st. affecting wall st." better send them the $700B quick.
All of her friends call her Alaska........Lou Reed ...anyone?
Except when people ask what's in her mind, they're not laughing.
talk about a toxic mess...this woman is a giant oil spill...joe IS speaking more slowly, I like his style tonight...
did she just say the mess on main st hurting wall st...??!!!
Barack saw the glass as half full was not a good line.
LOL.
She cannot answer questions.
She's crashing, more and more going off topic.
I don't think she's crashing, though she is occasionally losing focus in her eyes.
OMG. Energy. crackwhore.
Joe's playing the game well.
Getting his best shots in when he goes last, just before the change of topic.
-- ARG
Barack saw the glass as half full was not a good line.
What is this a free for all? Is no one going to make her answer the question asked?
she keeps coming back to talking points that ARE NOT RELEVANT to the Q - do you think people get that!!??
Notice the way she looks down as if reading. Especially when at the beginning of her answer
youtube moment!!!
Bring out Tina Fey ...now please
Too obvious that she's trying to avoid hard questions by changing the subject to the topics she's been coached on. That's not very Presidential.
"Energy...energy...pure energy...." WTF??
We have supplies of energy "all over this land"? Is that the missing fucking verse of "This Land is Your Land"? Is there some big pool of crude oil underneath Watertown, Mass. that I'm not aware of? Whuuuu??
East Cost Politicians! Those Bastards!
"Energy...energy...pure energy...." WTF??
We have supplies of energy "all over this land"? Is that the missing fucking verse of "This Land is Your Land"? Is there some big pool of crude oil underneath Watertown, Mass. that I'm not aware of? Whuuuu??
What a dingbat
Those Evil East Coast politicians!
Does that include the ones in NH, PA, VA & NC & FL?
It must! After all, they are on the east coast.
It must! After all, they are on the east coast.
Notice she keeps looking down as she talking directly at the camera...she's reading index cards
She's starting to crack. Biden's hitting his stride. Although, A. Sullivan doesn't seem to like him tonight. Ah, well.
Sullivan doesn't like populists and class warriors
Biden is staying right on McCain...perfect
He's calling him useless. Sigh.
Andrew has a blind spot when it comes to Biden. Biden can do nothing right in his eyes.
I disagree. I think Biden is great.
Palin don't wanna argue about the causes of climate change...Obviously it's God huggin us closer, but she don't wanna say that.
So, no other state has a valid take on what is killing the environment? She doesn't want to argue about the causes? She knows better, I see...no answer from her on this, just talking points...again...
Amazing. They've clearly told her not to worry about answering the questions. Just repeat the rote sound bites and don't sink this ship suzie...
Climate change does not just affect the ARCTIC STATE!!!!!
Palin's CNN-o-meter drops deeper with every question dodge. Holding up fairly well for now though. Big dip on failing to acknowledge man made global warming.
I wonder what would happen if Gwen said "anthropogenic"?
This chick really digs energy.
She sure likes the word impact
Joe: if you don't understand the cause, how can you come up with a solution?
You can always pray, god hater!
Palin not scripted on climate change. abort mission!
She started fairly well but I think her attention is beginning to wander and the wheels will begin coming off.
CLEAN COAL BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This chick really digs energy.
Drill a fucking hole in my skull now baby now
Did she just chant "drill, baby, drill"? Wow...
"Drill, baby, drill." Time to drink, everyone!
Subtle sexual innuendo? Wasn't she looking directly into the camera when she said that??
-- ARG
Big loss for Palin on correcting Biden on the DBD chant.
According ot he uncommitted chart on CNN, Biden really hit a high note -- Men & Women -- talking about investing in alternative energy, clean coal as a means of creating new jobs and exports.
and If I read the chart right, support actually dipped when Palin said "Drill Baby Drill" - maybe people are sick of hearing that phrase even if they believe in the policy.
Palin isn't providing fact to substantiate her and McCain's talking points whereas Biden is. Domestic sources will last only for a couple of years with our current consumption.
Senator Obiden. Good one!
-- ARG
Ha ha! We noticed that one too!
Oh nooOOOOOOooooOOOOOooooOOOO!! People are "hungry" for oil all over America?
RAPING THE CONTINENTAL SHELF!!! My brain hurts!
Did she just call him "Senator O-Biden?"
She says nucular just like George Bush!
Nucular count: 1

We've gone beyond class war to intellect war. She is directly appealing to fucking idiots who don't know any better.
Todd Palin hears the Drill baby drill chant every darn night
We're raping the continental shelf? Well, let's just counsel it to choose life.
does the continental shelf's insurance provider cover rape kits?
palin thinks natural gas will solve global warming.
BITCH!
I'm so sick of it! I WANT TO GET MARRIED DAMMIT!
Have you considered pharmacuticals?
or one man and one polar bear
A very diverse family?
"I am tolerant" -- LINE OF THE NIGHT
Sarah Palin: I'm not a homophobe, I have "interesting" friends.
She has a very diverse family, y'all! Hence why she's tolerate towards adults choosing their own partners. I'm comforted.
Palin is tolerant!?
Losing some of the wing-nuts?
-- ARG
HA! Want some salt with that same-sex foot, Bible Spice?
marriage is wicked gay anyway
Some of my best friends a gay...
i have diverse friends: some of 'em even think gays are okay. diversity!
FOREIGN POLICY TIME!!!
Noun and a verb and SURGE!
-- ARG
I think we could expand our natural gas supply by hooking a pipeline to her mouth.
OOOH! Foreign Policy!
Brilliant . . . he got Palin to say she agrees with him on same-sex marriage. That completely kills that wedge issue for McCain-Palin.
Yes, Biden nailed her.
Has any candidate ever openly defied the moderator and said they would choose not to answer questions? Weird.
Note use of word "choose".
BTW, how long does it take to learn to speak while smiling?
That's a life skill from the beauty pageant circuit, I guess.
hit her with the truth of the surge...it was urban warfare that cleaned it up...not US troops
abstinence only or Early withdrawl.........?that is the question
"With all due respect, I didn't hear a plan" -- nice one.
I support gay marriage. DENNIS 2012.
biden called obama out on that?
she's good on her feet, as long as she's not changing horses in midstream
She has no command of the facts whatsoever.
It's NOT EYE-RACK! She sounds like she heard about it for the first time 3 hours ago.
Pronounce it correctly, for the love of god!!!!
It's ih-raaq. Rhypmes with me-raaq.
Sigh. Anyone who pronounces it eye-rack just sounds clueless.
What does it say about McCain that Palin understands and can express Shia v. Suni better than he can?
Palin shall now be referred to as Bible Spice. So let it be written, so let it be done.
Is she wired? I thought I just saw a little box on her back.
Ditto, there is a lump
OOH! Didn't see the lump.
Looking for the lump... not seein' the lump. Not getting much of a chance to see it, though.
Is that what the huge flag pin is for? Maybe a speaker? (Not seeing anything in her ears.)
-- ARG
Oooh the undecided Ohio voters are loving Biden on the Iraq issue... No movement on Palin's tirade -- 75% + at the moment Biden started talking.
I would really like to hear the definition of "Victory"
"Your plan is a white flag of surrender." Holy shit that ain't gonna go over well.
"A white flag of surrender"....why oh why are we still talking in terms of some sort of "victory" in Iraq??
Surrender Dorothy
It is NOT pronounced "Eye-Rack."
God, that's annoying. I wonder if she says Eye-talian, too.
I hope, next time she says the surge worked, he says "I think it's a bit too early to raise the 'mission accomplished' banner again. I think we need to wait till we can get our troops home."
She just proved what Biden said...McCain will keep us there forever.
I just threw my slipper at the screen.
good thing you weren't wearing boots!
she's running out of index cards....
"Your plan is a white flag of surrender." Holy shit that ain't gonna go over well.
Answer the question!
She's reading the names of Iraqi leaders off her notecards and mispronouncing them.
Let's just let it out... she's a complete bitch, and it's coming through on this issue.
The CNN people do not like her Iraq position
John Mccain smells like "old People"
"John McCain voted to cut off funding for the troops." Thanks for saying that, Joe!
He's ready; he's winning.
But her expectations were set much lower...
-- ARG
"God love him but he's been dead wrong" -- YARR!
I love that Joe gets to make the buzzword point and then Gwen immed. changes to another question....
I
Big surprise of the night: Biden is winning on the war. Obvious that Palin has no further comeback when Biden calls out the "no vote" distortions.
She's a menace! I can't stand this woman!
The surge worked and Obama was WRONG on that! He was WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!
Hear Sarah Palin roar her talking point on Iraq.
OMFG NUCULAR!
Nothing that will change the basic dynamic steady movement toward Obama...Dodgers 0 Cubs 0
I wish Joe could tie McC to Bush a bit more in his answers and comments.
'that leader of al qaeda'

Is anybody going to make her ANSWER THE QUESTION
I just wish that someone would simply ask Sarah Palin or John McCain -- you've said we can't leave until we've won, what exactly does "victory" look like? Obviously it isn't when someone stands on an aircraft carrier and proclaims Mission Accomplished. So, what will it look like when we've won?
Nucular count: 2 -- no, 3. Wait, 5!

It was close, but I think she went to 6 there.

So interesting that men like her so much more than the women.
Palin is playing the Jew card

she said new-cyu-lar
let's parse her sentences. if we can.
Nucular count in this answer: 5

These comments all programmed.
Same old, same old.
Ah yes, she talked to Kissinger! We knew that would come up, eh?
I think they tied up Sarah Palin and sent George W. to this debate in drag...
Hey check it out. I can say Ahmadinejad!! Coolio!
I'm going to watch the Cubs - and get another glass of wine.
Oh god, she's bad. It's like high school.
They dont hate because of our freedom they hate us because of your accent
She is Bush in drag. I don't think American people are going to fall for this a third time.
God, please SHUT UP about "preconditions" with EYE-RAN..."I ran all the way hoooooome (doo wah, doo wah ohh), just to say I'm soooorryyyyy..."
Bush with ( ) ( )
Andrew Sullivan is saying Biden is awful, I think he's doing pretty good- what do you guys think?
He's getting better, she's getting worse, though I think she still has the thing won.
Also, Sullivan doesn't think much of Biden.
here comes the foreign policy SMACK down!
palin had better have brought a snorkel...
I think the timers are off. She is talking WAY more than Biden.
SPAIIINNN!!!!
The Left has totally underestimated Palin. She's "kickin' Biden's ass" right now.The format is working perfectly to her advantage. I knew this would happen! I need to run out right now and stock up on bottled water and canned beans. The end is truly near!! Tomorrow morning we'll wake up to a new reality: Palin wins debate; McCain surges to the lead. Guess what: the Rove-istas are doing us again! (6:50pm Pacific time -- maybe she'll still f#ck up big time )
Dude, you might want to breathe into a paper bag for a minute...
Nice sarcasm! :-)
I wouldn't go that far. McCain is still on the ticket, after all...
You can't use Main Street logic to engage Iran
SPAIN!
"SPAINNNNNNN"!
Spain is full of Mexicans ....isnt it
"McCain wouldn't sit down with the government of Spain" boo YAH
"Secretary Rice having met with some leaders on one side or the other"

I have HD TV and her make up looks awful. Looks like she was slapped real hard on both sides of her face
...and such as ... the Iran...and such as
Palin on Israel: Rice had meetings with "one side or the other there".
I have HD TV and her make up looks awful. Looks like she was slapped real hard on both sides of her face
dont go third person joe ....
Biden attempts to actually answer a question.
All this passion sharing is blowing my mind!
let's do a word count on Palin's use of "also"
Words Palin should avoid:
"Again"---too much like Condi.
"Also"---too much like Palin
"Nukular"
Her voice just woke and scared my sleeping baby.
Camco...put down the bong. 8:54 central time. The only ass that is getting kicked is Mrs. Palin's.
What an idea, having a president and vice president that can actually speak and have knowledge
Not fair of Biden to use complicated words like Hamas.
Wow, do you think Biden knows anything about the Middle East? She just got, and excuse me for this... pwned.
Wait, is "loving Israel" a position?
BLAME GAME hoo boy
does she know the Jews killed her precious Jesus
The moderator should ask Gov. Palin if she believes Man walked with Dinosaurs. Please: we're desperate. Do something!!
The "independent" men that I know in Texas are typically pro-NRA and Sarah is a big time pin-up girl for them. The day it was announced that she was McCain's VP pick, a bunch of these guys at work were high-fiving that "the GILF" was on the slate. Made me sick...
What's that? There have been huge BLENDERS in the war?
make margaritas, not war!
There's been huge blunders in the war and this administrations - finally, I can agree with Palin on something!
Sweep everything under the carpet and forget what was done wrong and pretend it never happened
past is prologue, gwen.
Bush!
Okay it is true. She is just spouting talking points and Joe is stating policies and facts. What the F???
Joe ties McCain to Bush's policies----YESSSSSS
george bushes
I just don't see where she is kicking anyone's anything...and I can't understand why Sullivan was so down on Biden's performance in the early moments of the debate. I think Biden is more relaxed and much more substantive, while Palin is quoting talking points and not offering real answers here. She's not tanking but she's not winning me over, either...
There it goes: George Bush, George Bush, George Bush... watch the little meter go up.
I haven't heard ....ANYTHING!!
Thank god Joe is tying McCain to Bush, I think it just cuts through her rambling platitudes...
"the same as George Bush's"
"the same as George Bush's"
"the same as George Bush's"....new question
go joe, go joe
Nuke-u-lar!
Joe ties McCain to Bush's policies----YESSSSSS
Holy crap, nucular count: 11.

Wow, Palin just clearly lost the debate with her very whiny comment about the Obama campaigning look back too often and her dismissive, flippant comment about the war "blunders". That was a huge mistake! Especially to those who have lost family members in the war.
I think she thinks she's running for student council.
The generals in Afganistan has said the surge will not work there...stupid!
aren't we, as a people, just plain tired of other people who cannot speak clearly? I mean, aren't ya? huh? I'm gonna think on it some more and get back atcha...fucking morons...I hate them.
I think the Afghans won't agree with her comments about killing terrorists and not civilians!
Nukular weaponry is bad for bad people. Our NUKUlar weaponry is a deterrent, so that is good.
Palin: "Can we talk about my hair, or anything else other than the question?"
IFill: "Well sure Sarah, your hair is lovely"
it hard to go to school with no legs or eyes...bitch
blah.blah.perky.pander.sound bite.lie.
What a kept Obama impression she just did. I'm surprised she didnt' shuck and jive while doing it...
also. she said also again. also, she said also again
"Not Joe BIden, our commander on the ground in Afghanistan" -- nice. Humble and pointed.
"Three weeks in Iraq, seven years in Afghanistan"-- woah.
FACTS MATTER. Say that again and again and again. Facts matter. Go Joe.
The "independent" men that I know in Texas are typically pro-NRA and Sarah is a big time pin-up girl for them. The day it was announced that she was McCain's VP pick, a bunch of these guys at work were high-fiving that "the GILF" was on the slate. Made me sick...
You say "nuclear," and I say "nuk-you-ler..."
Was that "irradiated" she was trying to say?
Well, we all know her answers are canned and we all know that Biden speaks with a much deeper level of wisdom (to say the least).
HOWEVER, the fact that she hasn't fallen flat on her face -- the fact that she hasn't started stuttering incoherently -- will be seen by the commentariat as a "victory."
What do you all think?
I think he's doing a good job of attacking the other side without it seeming like he's bullying Palin personally.
Dick Lugar is a porn star name
"McCain's policy is the same as Bush's."
Again, Joe scores when he goes last. That was a good little rant!!
-- ARG
She just doesn't have a clue - she doesn't answer anything about anything put to her. Joe needs to call her out...
also.
There have been huge blunders (in for policy) in this administration as in every administration...he's the maverick..he will bring reform to Washington
Heckuva job
reminder: I was 100% WRONG last debate. This one looks the same, Biden (old guy) looks like he is winning, but Palin is "proving" (urgh) she is vice presidential, so like Barack, she wins. Or so it seems
No vice-presidential debate has ever mattered and this one won't either
Biden has succeeded in keeping the focus on McCain ...the race continues to move to Obama
I was 100% right on the last debate
For what that's worth...ie about as much as a VP debate
Dude, KEEP THE SIGHING IN CHECK, Joe!!
Word.
-- ARG
I'm liking Biden. He ain't half bad.
Damnit, Joe... no sighing into the microphone. I don't care if she says something stupid.
Where did she learn about the surge...hunting Moose?
She doesn't answer questions. She talks gobbledygook. She wrinkles her nose and winks.
Biden seriously tries to answer questions.
She wins. Big.
there aer no "lives" in iraq.... only drilling rights
Pop Quiz --> True or False: Sarah Palin can pinpoint Bosnia on a map.
On of map of Bosnia.
Biden's rocking that mesmerizing poll line thingy...oooohhhh look at it go higher!!
Oh geez, Margie, I'm just a regular Gal!
GAH!
Has anyone pointed out that approximately 9:25p.m. in a Vice-Presidential debate, Sarah Palin said, "I have been doing this for what, five weeks?" That ad writes itself, "Hi, I'm Sarah Palin. I've been doing this for five weeks!?!? So please trust me to be one heart beat away from a 72 year old president who has had a recurring bout with melannoma (sp) during an intense economic crisis while conducting two foreign wars?" Announcer: "Sarah Palin. Five weeks, for the next four years." ...You get the point.
Her mouth moves...SHE LIES
Unless you listen carefully, it's all blah blah blah - both sides. So, Palin just needed not to wilt. She hasn't wilted. I really really really hate to say it...but it's a win for her.
No, she's getting creamed. With all the problems in this country, people want somebody competent. Setting the bar low won't save her at a time when people really want to see someone who can lead us over all the very high hurdles in our way.
Not at all. She is coming across as someone who is reading her crib notes. No depth to her comments at all. Very shallow. Biden is winning. She is just treading water and repeating worn out cliches.

Is it clear yet that Biden is winning? Palin is reverting to snark, not playing well with cnn-o-meter.
Tell us about your support for troopergate...bitch!
well if the CNN brain tracker is to be believed, Biden is doing fine and palin is tanking... everyone remembers the mean cheerleader in high school
Please please please.
She may be looking charming to some people, but she is not answering questions. Hope many see that.
I'm new to the forum, but old to TPM. Are my brain cells misfiring, or is Palin talking in circles and confusion? I honestly can't understand what she is talking about!
That's okay, neither can she.
When the phone rings at 3 am a stack of note cards is not going to help much.
the time limits are brutal in this debate.
definitely working in the idiot's favor...
Does she think saying "I don't understand Washington" and "I've only been at this five weeks" helps her?
McCain = Cheney. nice
Oh golly... wow... I am glad I am a washington outsider, though I am trying really hard to be an insider by the way, if I should be so priveleged. But, (smiles like a icky prom queen, I'm better than you way)...gee, and gee....
I don't understand her....AT ALL.
She's got this squeaky voice, an "eat shit and die" grin, and she criticizes him with lies and distortions with this tone like he just tracked mud on the rug like a naughty wittle boy....and then, boom, "But yes, we can agree on Darfur, also."
W....T....F? Does anyone anywhere take this Elle Woods routine seriously?
you betcha. i'm joe six-pick
I drank two of 'em before I came out here, donchaknow?
also, and again, also and also
We're over an hour into this debate, and Palin is cleaning his clock. The format stinks! Ask her if Man walked with Dinosaur! Seriously! Pose the question!!
you betcha. i'm joe six-pick
Can we please now make it a requirement that any president or vice president must know how to pronounce NUCLEAR?
For any points she is scoring looking "competent" (and I'm using that generously), Biden is scoring just as many by slamming McCain. One consequence of her refusal to answer questions is that he is slamming McCain without proper retort. Biden is pitch perfect tonight (though he needs to look up when he answers).
She's flailing and making silly, jingoistic comments. A mess.
Filibustering Sarah...
Let's get politics out of this war!
Can we please now make it a requirement that any president or vice president must know how to pronounce NUCLEAR?
McCain "knows how to win a war"? Um, when did he win a war?
He wins a war every time he gets it up.
He crashed five planes, and that makes him a HERO!
CNN tracker? What's that? Is it live onscreen on CNN (I don't have CNN).
"John McCain knows how to win a war"....really?
Against what? Logic? Sanity? Melanoma? THe Truth? Himself?
She's doing a lot better vs. Biden than McCain did against Obama! She's so damn folksy - sickening to me, but does the public eat it up?
She's repeating a lot of the lies that have been proven to be lies in the McCain campaign, but (of course) Biden can't call her out as a liar on the stage. I'm hoping enough interested people are listening who know they've been proven to be lies.
Too bad people started watching the ball game during the fp portion
1. "The past is prologue" is the best argument against McCain I've ever heard.
2. "McCain knows how to win a war." Let's fact check that one. What evidence do we have to support this claim?
What war did McCain win?
The war on sanity.
John McCain's new campaign slogan: "He knows what evil is".
"John McCain knows how to win a war"... but he won't tell anyone till he's president. LOL. Isn't that treason?
Just close your eyes and try to listen to her, she makes no sense at all
again with all these blenders! who's sending blenders to iraq??
you'd think the military could use more body armor and fewer pina coladas.
Good question, Gwen... now we have to imagine Palin as President!
She didn't say anything about how her administration would be. She went to...wait for it...ANWR? Argh!
STOP WINKING AT ME!
She has been told not to talk about a Palin Administration.
No mas Mavericks por favor
She winked! AAAArrrghghhaiiigh!
Did she just wink?
DID MAN WALK WITH DINOSAUR!! YES OR NO!! Ask the question!
I've been praying for the "Did Jesus ride around on a dinosaur?" question all week.
Bad answer to go off message if McCain kicks the bucket.

Ooh, Reagan quote---"there you go again."
utahcarol,
You are correct, it is like watching a kid giving report in school after going on bender the night before. Random synapses firing, wordings bursting forth, must stay on point.
I'm the one with the hangover after watching that train wreck.
How does McCain know how to win a war? Because he was a bad pilot in the last war we lost?
Wasilla Alaska is nothing but a single major road with some big box store...just what America needs...NOT!
Say it ain't so, Joe. Doggone it.
I was waitin' for that one!

She's doing that "Joe... pointing backwards" thing again, he needs to turn that around on her!
"Corruption and greed" she repeats that over and over but it's it's just a self-descriptive mantra for Republicans...
She's starting to fall back on her "folksy" act.
Yep, getting into the 4th quarter now. Can she sustain it? (Nobody's watching anymore though. She didn't wipe out in the first 15 minutes and everybody switched to the baseball. Cubs getting crushed right now, BTW (picture in picture).)

Palin's joke just backfired!
She's wearing a BIG Flag pin set with ? rhinestones? To make up for McCain not wearing one last week?
She talks in run on sentences.
She just tried to smackdown Gwen Ifil... please, please please ask her this: When you said that humans and dinosaurs existed at the same time -- was that also a lame attempt at a joke?
She wants to take over the Senate. She could have used an education.
I think she's promoting the Cheney Doctrine of souped up Veep power...I guess she inherits the (wo)man sized safe...
"I discussed it with John McCain" -- yeah, when she met him that one time.
I can't stand listening to her anymore... this is pure torture. Wink, wink - oh, help us all! Nil her Joe in the finale!
Another word I hope not to hear more of from Palin: "Ya", instead of "You".
dog gonnit gee whilekers joe six packing whoop ede doo daa darnit all....i'm gonna puke!!!
From the sounds of it McCain doesn't know how to win wars all he knows is how to start them. Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran!
Since when did someone with a bachelor's degree in communications qualify as an Energy Czar?
The lame attempt thing was just plain weird. He kicked her ass with the what would you do as VP. Sums it up right there.
Sarah Palin just said that John McCain tapped her. LOL! OK, I'm a five year old.
me too.
I thought the same thing.
There's an arrested adolescent trapped within a lotta us.
Asking her about Cheney - love it!
I wonder how Scalia feels about the constitution having much flexibility?
Joementum!!!
jibberish....more jibberish!!!
She agrees with Cheney ... lot's of flexibility! Need we say any more. Uh-ha!
"The Founding Fathers were very wise, there, putting a lotta flexibility in the Constitution" -- yeah, they're flexible all right, they're spinning in their graves right about now...

Gotta love Joe for his understanding of the Constitution rather than Palin's shoot from the hip experience as mayor/governor
'his or her'
nice.
The Con Law Prof will educate the Eye-witness News nit wit.
Damn Biden is destroying Cheney...I like.
Ooh, potential meltdown? Not prep'd on whether the VP is in the Executive branch?! Falling back to various and sundry prepared remarks?? Sounding like she's being interviewed by KAHY-tee?
Joe's ready for this one. Score one for Joe!
Not that it'll matter. She didn't fall apart completely, so she exceeded expectations.

Good catch.
She's a wannabe Cheney.
Is it me or does Ifil's nerves show?
She really can't string together words in grammatically correct order can she?
I think she said "equal rice"
Must be the Japanese equivalent of a chicken in every pot
She frequently switches the object with the subject in her sentences, sometimes saying the opposite of what she means.
Sarah Palin is a wall of sound.
Actually Joe, the Executive Branch is in Article II, not Article I - oh well
You're right, Joe basically blew that part of the answer. But I think what he meant to say is that the VP is first mentioned in Article I only because that's the first Article. And, in that context, the only duty of the VP is to break ties in the Senate.
Article II is clearly the "home" of the VP in the Constitution.
I still think Joe won this point (and Palin fumbled badly, basically saying she wants to somehow expand the authority of the VP's office.)
-- ARG
one and a half years doesn't make her an expert on energy
She sure doesn't answer a question - she grabs a topic with a left turn relation and runs with it!
She's running at the mouth now! Sounding more like one of her Couric interviews right now!
"How're we gonna pay those tuition bills" -- at least they don't have to worry about Bristol's anymore, huh? Oops, sorry, too soon?
Just my opinion, she sounds stupid.
I think she just went of the rails on the VP stuff. You could tell she knew it too. She looked over left shoulder at Gwen, not at the camera. She looked lost for just second.

Palin: My experience will be put to good use.
if Palin and Mccain win I will move to Alaska, I mean canada dontcha know??!!
shiny city on a hill...religious reference...not good
THREE HANKIE MOMENT!!!! :-O
her kids are cute...little Twig...Bark, Moss and branch
Governor Palin clearly has no idea what she was just asked about the Legislative vs. Executive branch. You could see it in her eyes.
I'm sure she didn't want to say she agreed with Cheney on his ideas about the role of Vice-President.
shining city on a hill?
for one brief shining moment, it was known as Camelot.

John McCain has been the consummate maverick x 30?
Biden sheds a tear. Wins on sincerity. Story over.
Joe teared-up a little talking about raising his kids after his wife died - based on the CNN Uncommitted meter, people seemed to appreciate that.
That's right leave...not lead
Joe managed a verklempt moment.
Death to maverick talk!
Wow, Joe choking up the people meter went off the chart. She is rambling again
Palin on McCain: "He is the man that we need to leave..."
She said it right the first time.
I keep hearing this come up with McCain- "He knows how to win a war!" Exactly what war has John McCain won?
She just lost it for a second.
Knocked it out of the park with the choke up. Perfect. Spot on. He get's it. God Bless. That will count. That will resonate. God Bless you. Go Joe!

KAPOW!!! maverick he is NOT!
Palin says there you go again joe, focusing on the past." Biden should say, that knowing history, helps you avoid making the same mistakes in the future. A McCain administration would be more of the same; we would be repeating the mistakes of the past 8 years.
Ask her what sort of society she wants her child with Down Syndrome to grow up in. How will her ticket's policy positions ensure a future for her child? Ask her about the government's responsibility to fully fund the IDEA.
Time is running out!
Or just ask her: DID Man walked with Dinosaur?
McCain's not a maverick -- Biden's best series of (very truthful) attacks...

Thank goodness Joe can keep focused. It's really hard to stay grounded when she talks. It's all a blur with her.
Oh GOOD!! He's bringing up the Supremes!!
Great final point.
roe v wade!
Major difference: Joe Biden could run for president and actually win. Palin wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

"Consummate maverick"? WTF? Is that even possible? She's been flailing for the last 30 minutes, and I think Biden is now winning. I think she'll still be declared the "clear winner" by the punditry due to the strong start.

OK, it took a long time to load, but did Palin just list Lieberman, Giuliani and RANGLE as the multi-party supporters of McCain??
EEESSSS Gonna B OK!
wow nic choke up!
OK, it took a long time to load, but did Palin just list Lieberman, Giuliani and RANGLE as the multi-party supporters of McCain??
I thought it was Romney
I heard "Lingle" ???????
OK... I wasn't sure about the Rangle inclusion--TV sound too fuzzy. CNN has it as Lingle (I did not mention Romney, but, yes, he was on the list too). Still, Palin claims that Giuliani, Romney and Lingle, essentially, are all mavericks but very different from her, McCain and Lieberman. It's all horseshit of a different color. The line does not work no matter what she intended.
I am glad, at least, that she did NOT say "Rangle". That would be shocking.
The scary thing about Palin is that she appears to have a compulsion to lie. Whenever she did not have a solid on-the-facts response to Biden, she just made stuff up, as she did, for example, with "General McClellan". She got the name wrong, but, more importantly, she just accused Biden of lying about what the general said when Biden was exactly right.
Remember that W appealed to people who don't read--not even something as rudimentary as local newspapers. So they get all their news from TV. And, according to a recent survey, most of McCain supporters are TV watchers, while Obama supporters get their news from a variety of media. So if a TV spot lies outright, it cannot be debunked on TV right away, the probability of catching a TV show debunking it is low and, if you don't use other sources of information, the point sticks. So, for McCain (and Republicans, in general), it pays to lie in their campaign spots and stump speeches because they will never be called on it in the medium that their supporters partake in.
SHUT UP! No one gives a shit about your family! we care about your knowledge of the issues.
Who is she to claim the high road with the way she ran Wasilla and the governor's office?
Yea, my husband wants Alaska to leave the Union.
Toss in Arizona and you'll have my vote
also and again...also and again...also and again...
The anti-Ifill strategy works well. She has been terrible, probably because she is afraid to to look one-sided. It's terrible that she hasn't pushed back to the non-answers.

Shining City on a Hill - why do I feel that Palin has no idea who John Winthrop is?
Is that unfair?
Her closing statement is pure beauty pageant fluff, complete with twinkles and winks.
Oh my god, I've heard high-school graduation speeches better than her closing statement.
Damn. Joe is good.
"I've always been proud to be an American." Subtle. She's talking in code here.
Good debate. Like two prize fighters landing punches and a split decision. Which means Palin wins.
But then, VP debates never matter in the end.

Oooh! There's Bristol with Trig in tow to hide her belly!

Said twice already on CNN... Campbell Brown"... a little out of her depth."
Palin-McCain "won" in the sense that she was coherent and never embarrassed herself. (Although they're still talking as I write, so I could still be wrong.)
Obviously you were listening to another debate.
coherent?? really???
The MSM has also noted palin going off on tangent to questions and going off subject.
The Ohio undecideds favored Biden throughout. Biden spoke in specifics, Palin wasn't able (again) to give any specific policy points.
Biden win, although Palin exceeded expectations.
Thank you, that's great to hear.
Mark Shields on PBS just said SP was "relentlessly colloquial," something new in presidential debating. I think that's generous...I felt like she came off as relentlessly fake. Gimme a break with the "gosh darns" -- but then again, I'm an Eastern elite.

ST LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) — Palin's answers do not lack confidence, they lack coherence
David Gergen: "Joe Biden gave the debate performance of his life".
CBS's Bob Schieffer said Biden had a very good night.
NBC's post-debate line-up was unbelievably biased -- Geraldine Ferraro (hates Obama, praised Palin) Peggy Noonan (R), Jane Swift (R), and Michelle Norris (not a Dem).
WTF?
That's funny. Jane Swift might be one of the few politicians who is shallower than Palin. Unlike Palin, who does appear to have a brain (although it's clearly not firing on all cylinders), Swift is dumb as a stump.
Palin's folksiness is fake. Look at her Alaska debates--none of that gosh-darn nonsense. There are two possibilities as to why she was coached to use it. First, she's the female version of W--clueless, but likable. Second, it's all code to the pro-lifers and other assorted religious nuts. Her folksiness had a particular flavor--and religious overtones (ok, "you betcha!"--no, but "gosh-darn it!" and "bless your heart!"--no doubt, and she used far more of those).
Now the repubs are blabbering already...GREAT JOB.....are you kidding me...are we all supposed to be blabbering idiots and such as and such...ahhh say it aint so joe, forget our MISERABLE MISERABLE BUSH 8 YEAR PAST!!!!

Some people are.
Some of the CNN commentators are saying she "connected with middle class voters." That's because they think middle class voters are stupid and therefore someone who sounds stupid will connect with us.
We're not that stupid. She didn't connect. The polls will show that tomorrow.

all i have to say is if this country votes those two yokels into the White House, I would be referring to Mccain and Palin, wink wink, GOD HELP THIS COUNTRY!!!
Biden won the debate but Palin established she is not a cartoon character.
Biden brutalized the GOP on the darth cheney issue and abuse of power of that office.
Biden clearly won.
Yes. But she still's not Presidential material.
Joe, stop saying you love McCain. Sheesh.
Palin's eagerness was grating and got to be annoying, over time. I enjoyed watching the CNN crowd-o-meter respond more to Biden than to Palin. Biden didn't so much clean her clock: she did. I came off liking her more personally, but also more convinced than ever that she shouldn't be in the White House. Biden won this. Hands down.
Biden comes from behind and wins it in a squeaker, is my guess. But like I said, I was 100% (OK
This is where MSNBC shoots themselves in the foot.
Anybody who appreciates Pat Buchanan's responses is already watching Fox.
It's simply unbelievable that they'd waste a huge market opportunity to collect the liberal and sane audience to watch them.
I had to switch to PBS till Countdown came on.
Palin's conclusion, imagining our future selves "in our sunset years," lamenting the error of our ways and reminiscing about the "days when men and women were free" would have been just schlocky if it weren't a near-quote of Ronald Reagan's infamous prediction of the catastrophic consequences of the creation of Medicare. As such, I found it chillingly ironic.
I dont like being referred to as Joe six pack...
It all comes down to how many people will take script and poise and, er, "perkiness" for substance. When the question didn't match her coaching and cards, she was a fish out of water -- she didn't know about Cheyney's 'bizzare' definition of the vice presidency and apparently doesn't know what "Achilles heel" means.
Joe -- I'm as biased as can be, I'll admit, but I'm also PROUD AS HELL!!! I think he did wonderfully ................ AND he didn't need any damn index cards!!! Way to go, Joe!
Palin came across as a baloon filled with talking points. She was able to hold enough air to last for ninety minutes. At no time did an original thought or anything that might pass as a personally formative experience get past the lipstick.
Biden did well. He came across as experienced not just as a politician but as a mature person who had the capacity to integrate his experience into a philosophy of life. He had obviously come a long way but not lost his roots.
His comment that the past is prologue to the future probably resonated well with the humans that were watching, but it may not register the typical American moron. A better response would have been to note that that experience was not as important as the ability to learn from experience. Palin and McCain want us to ignore the past and focus on change, but they continue to support a disasterous war policy and spout discredited talking points regarding the role of Government in the economy. Doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result is the working definition of insanity.
The real truth about Sarah Palin is that she is a couple of years away from being totally nuts.
Maybe it was just me but seems like she didn't make a complete fool of herself. The beauty of low expectations?
At least she was better at "answering" questions at the very least by not answering them. Instead of just making something up.
Joe, stop saying you love McCain. Sheesh.
The debate loser here was the moderator. She let Palin tromp around anywhere she wanted. How was Biden supposed to respond? To the moderator's questions, or to Palin's side-tracks?
George Brinton McClellan (December 3, 1826 – October 29, 1885
General McClellan also failed to maintain the trust of Lincoln, and proved to be frustratingly insubordinate to the commander-in-chief. After he was relieved of command,
The line that sticks in my mind is the one Palin recited (I don't give her any credit for any original thoughts) after Biden described McCain's voting history, because Palin said, "There you go again, looking backwards."
The biggest challenge of the McCain campaign is that is must distance itself from both the past and the present. The past is the record of the Republican party, which has controlled Congress for 10 0f the last 12 years, the record of John McCain, who has been in the Senate for the last 26 years, and the record of George W. Bush, who has been President for the last 7 years. The present is the platform of John McCain, which is a platform of increasing tax breaks for the wealthy, continued dependence on fossil fuels, and the continuation of a unilateral foreign policy based on military force.
The promise of the McCain-Palin campaign is that we didn't really mean what we did in the past, we don't mean what we say about the present, and we're going to do something different in the future. Just trust us.
And Joe Biden had the correct response, which is that the past is prologue.
Well, at least it was refreshing to see them civil to each other. Reminds me of the good ol' days when politicians disagreed but still talked to each other.
They were civil to each other after the debate. How refreshing.
Joe worked the kitchen table. Put the meat and potatoes on that table. Health care is on the kitchen table. Education is/was the kitchen table. Biden put Foreign Policy on the kitchen table (see cost of Irag War). He threw the kitchen table at George Bush, Dick Cheney and John McCain.
What a motormouth- spewing out a bunch of canned slogans and platitudes. Is she capable of a coherent chain of thought? How many times did she say "diverse"? Why did she wink? This wasn't middle school. Is it just me or were most of her answers totally unresponsive? I hope I never have to listen to her again.....
"It's 'Drill Baby, Drill!' We are sooooo BLESSED to have such a dingbat running for Vice President!
Have I heard Palin right. For the second time, I think I've heard her reverse the cause-and-effect about global warming:
"...I don't attribute all of man's actions to global warming..."
I don't either, in fact, I think far too little of human action is guided by global warming (slowing/reversing it, preparing for its implication). That is entirely beside the point though.
that would be "strategery"
I expected a stumbling Palin and forceful Biden, but came away with a feeling of creepiness about Palin and warmth towards Biden.
She put on a hardened smile throughout, even while talking about what she would do if McCain died in office.
Biden moved me with his self-effacing comment about his admitted faults, when he choked up talking about losing a child, and as he kept his head slightly bowed while summarizing his position. I kinda like this guy.
"...rear that head of abuse....'
~Ahem~ The woman has a thing for heads bobbing up. Do you think she might be deliberately trying to be subliminally sexually suggestive?
Josh mentioned that there were no Couric-interview-style stammering moments. May I offer up this for consideration?:

October 2, 2008 10:19 PM | Reply | Permalink
You're right, Joe basically blew that part of the answer. But I think what he meant to say is that the VP is first mentioned in Article I only because that's the first Article. And, in that context, the only duty of the VP is to break ties in the Senate.
Article II is clearly the "home" of the VP in the Constitution.
I still think Joe won this point (and Palin fumbled badly, basically saying she wants to somehow expand the authority of the VP's office.)

I heard "Lingle" ???????
October 2, 2008 11:27 PM | Reply | Permalink

Am I the only one who noticed that Gov. Palin kept prounouncing the word nuclear as "nucular". She probably learned that this was proper from Bush.

I connect that pronunciation to Bush, Elder and Junior, but I seem to remember Jimmy Carter doing it, too? Yes, no?
