"The consequences of defeat would have been increased Iranian influence."
McCain just said that.
And the consequences of this war? Can any rational person claim that the war has produced anything but increased Iranian influence? Are they not close to nuclear weapons? Are they not riding high via Hamas and Hezbollah? Are they not cocky?
This man is supposed to be knowledgeable about the world?

Obama might as well suspend his campaign

Obama made this counter point, that the Iraqi war has increased Iranian influence beyond belief. But I don't think it went over very well -- Joe Sixpack is going to see McCain as the winner of this debate, sorry to say. It just wasn't a good night for Obama. I think he has to be more aggressive.

Obama has this weird belief that he has to show deference to McCain at every opportunity, stroke him, and acknowledge his greatness. When McCain made that huge mistake about Iranian influence, Obama should have been laughing and shaking his head like "oh man, where did they get this guy?" As a result I doubt that one in ten viewers even recognized McCain's irrationality.
The good news is that winning the debates has almost no effect at all on who wins the election. It is little more than entertainment for political junkies. Never forget that Bush lost every single debate he took part in.

Todd:
When you get a chance could you combine these "live blogging" blogs.
They're taking up a lot of real estate.
Thanks.

Everyone but the 30% DEADENDERS Republican's should understand the point.
When Obama drives home the point, that we killed off the natural predator of Iraninan influence.
These DEADENDERS are absolutely blind to reality.
It's like when McCain brought up about the bear analogy. He admittted he didn't know if it was for forensic evidence or whatever.
Hey John, don't you think you should find out the reason, before raising it as an issue?

It's Todd's blog! He brings up interesting comments on topics that came up during the long 90 minute exchange. Personally I like separate ones.

Think, observer, think!
The objection to "Todd's blog" isn't that he's separated his remarks. It's that he's being thoughtless in forcing three other blog entries off the front page and denying Cafe members the ability to read them and respond.

I wonder if McCain knows that there's a strong case to be made that the Iranians worked hard behind the scenes to encourage the Americans to invade Iraq.
However it went during the debate, Obama can keep that in his pocket and use it in a speech.
