Oh Sarah . . .

user-pic

We are tremendously heartened by the choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for Vice President, since she will lead the Republican Party's march to Socialism. Her state government ranks Number 1 in spending per capita. The State has taken into its hands a good bit of the means of production, owning $28 billion in assets, as well as $36 billion in a "Permanent Fund." They return this hoard to the People, in the form of annual checks. In 2007 it was $1,654 for every man, woman and child, of all races, colors, creeds, sexual orientations, disability, genders, and views on evolution. Free money! You don't have to work for it!! What could be better? And where does all this dough come from, you might ask? The answer is, the state government taxes the bejesus out of its oil production. Obama's pissant windfall profits tax is a pimple on the arse of the Alaskan proletarian's ability to milk the profits of his petroleum reserves. His birthright, or if you move there, his squatter's right.

I have seen the future and it works.

Sarah didn't "start" giving the checks. The checks have been doled out for years. but I regress, when was the last time "your" state government sent you a check?

OldSarge,

ya gotta get away from that radio, Rush and Hannity are rotting your brain.

States sending checks, while not the rule, is more common than you think. We get at least 2 every year due to the Casino being here.

You must live in a more prosperous state. Here in Pine Ridge we have a casino but we have never received a check.

user-pic

Old Sarge,

you got a check, but Ted Stevens stole it out of your mailbox. He split it with Don Young.

If I remember correct Old Sarg it was a few months ago ?

Sorry Sarg... just noticed your caveot "state"... well I guess you would need to check with the "first americans" who receive more than the allotment given in Alaska...

user-pic

CA Rotwang, you should send your article to the Obama/Biden campaign.

user-pic

McCain sure does like younger women, doesn't he?

user-pic

McCain obviously has an unconscious desire to lose. And I thank him for it. By his choice of Little Miss Muffet the right wing Governor he has truly put his country first.

Thank you John McSame!

Bush Sr ran with Quail and even after Lloyd Bentsen cut him down on comparing himself to JFK, Bush and Quail were elected. Palin is all boobs and no brains granted, but that may be what it takes for McCain to get elected. Remember, its not what you offer that gets you elected, but what voters think you are offering. So far, McCain has hit on the right person with the correct set of public principles that energizes the conservatives and right-wing christes to go out and vote. That he has not intention of using her for anything more than a door mat is beside the point. All she needs to do is get him elected.

Consider the following scenario;

President McCain dies in office, we then have President Palin.

Persident Obama dies in office, we than have President Biden.

Choose.

user-pic

Choose

Hmmm.

Weed-smoking VPILF, or the guy who invented the Drug Czar...

Like Jack Benny said under different circumstances, "I'm thinking, I'm thinking"

user-pic

Them's socialists up thar.

user-pic

Hey, don't knock it!
In fact, this may be the perfect opening for those of us disappointed by Obama's moderate tendencies - we can start talking about nationalizing energy production and point at Gov. Palin's home state as a sterling example.
If Alaskan oil goes to US(and perhaps state) government petroleum needs, that takes a fair bit of demand off the market(the DOD uses a LOT of fuel) and could help bring prices down.
I mean, who can argue with putting America first?

That's right, nationalize oil -- just like Hugo Chavez.

I've seen Old Sarg in several places here. He is irrational. Don't debate him. Shell shock, don't you know.

user-pic

Doc,

I mistook him for military until I took a closer look at his name. I wonder what "Sarg" means.

user-pic

does like younger women

It don't make him a bad person

You are kind of an idiot here. Norway, Iran, etc also send out checks to taxpayers. Texas sends them out for oil and natural gas profit returns. It's the reward for living in an oil rich area.

The problem most definitely is not her track record. On the contrary, her record is her strength. It's the brevity and scope of it. She has never once interfaced with Congress. She has never once made decisions affecting more than 200,000 people. She has never handled a budget greater than a few million.

That's where they'll take her down. But where they'll never touch her is social issues. The American Republicans love to hate and kill. And in Palin they will find a pretty, spunky, smart devil. And she will truly wear Prada.

The WSJ said this morning that her husband makes about $46,000 from his fishing boat and about the same working the oil fields as a union steel worker.

Remember Buckley's comment that he would prefer to be governed by the first 1000 people in the Manhattan telephone directory than the faculty of Harvard?

Buckley led the life of a plutocrat and most likely never met a mechanic or laborer in his life, or if he did gave him short shrift. This saying of Buckley's is just one of those bon mots that those Ivy League types like to throw around. In fact he was a sycophant to the powerful.

Donna, when has Texas ever sent a check? I'm from Texas, I own land in Texas. Iran sends out checks? How would you even know such a thing? You are a gas bag.

user-pic

Of course DonnaAnn - the resources belong to the people of the country, and it's perfectly reasonable that they receive a share of the proceeds.
But.
Who paid for Alaska? It was taxpayers, just like it was for the Louisiana purchase, Gadsden Purchase, and other non-military land aquisitions. Some residents migrated to those areas, but the bulk remained in the states they came from.
So - where's my check? And yours? And heck, if he's a citizen there's no reason OldSarg shouldn't get one too.
And, more to the point - are the oil companies paying market value for the black gold they're extracting from my land(yeah yeah, it's yours too) and putting on the global market?
If not, why not?

I am from Alaska, and I love the permanent fund. Tax the crap out of big oil and give it back to the people, hell yeah.
Palin though...oh lord. This woman is about to give an extra $1200 back to the people on top of the PFD from windfall profits instead of investing it in the state infrastructure. Very populist and very irresponsible.
Just got off the phone w/me mum (AK politician) and she tells me Mrs. Palins hubby has been holding meetings in her office when she is away.
I am sooo glad they didn't vett this woman, lots of stuff is gonna come up about her and old man mcsenile is going down...and he aint getting back up.
BTW OldSarg... I went to school at Chadron State just a few miles down the road from you, great country, great pheasant hunting. Enjoy!
