Would You Care If the Home Burglar Had Been a POW?

Suppose you come home and find a strange man rifling through your bedroom drawers looking for the family jewels. When you apprehend this man and call the police, he tells you that he had been held and tortured as a prisoner of war for five years. Would you still call the police?

Most of us would. Maybe the judge should show some leniency in sentencing, but even former POWs don't have license to steal the family jewels. This is the story of the McCain candidacy.

Make no mistake Senator McCain's campaign is about stealing the family jewels. He wants to turn over Social Security to the financial industry. You know them - the subprime boys. He wants to run Medicare to benefit the insurance and pharmaceutical industry. He wants to end the system of employer provided health insurance, through which most working families get their care, and leave people with medical conditions at the mercy of the insurance industry.

McCain also wants to turn over environmentally sensitive lands to the oil industry even though everyone knows that the oil potentially available will only lower the price of gas by a few pennies, and even this benefit won't be seen for close to twenty years. And, he wants to give even more tax breaks to the wealthiest people in the country, at the expense of larger deficits and/or cuts to programs like Medicare.

Senator McCain deserves respect for the suffering he endured as a POW, but he doesn't deserve the presidency. The public better keep its eye on the family jewels.

The notion that an undecided voter is going to be swayed by the notion that McCain's POW status should be poo-pooed is just silly. So I think all you're doing with this kind of an argument is preaching to like-minded folks. I think folks who want to help Senator Obama with folks who haven't made up their minds should focus on our candidate and the lousy condition the nation is it. Everytime McCain's POW status is raised, particularly with a modicum of disrespect, my two cents says he wins votes.

tnathan,

"...a Black community organizer and has two cute kids and wife who sacrificed herself for a meager 300K in salary to help the community?"

wouldn't burglarize your home. Now a Republican....

Think the POW card has INDEED been overplayed and like it or not IT RESONATES AS OVERPLAYED !! Now that is going to be disturbing to some of the OLDER generationals , but the rationale tht due to his POW experiences he gets a free pass on all else is RIDICULOUS !! His actual record speaks volumes and folks, McCain may have cultivated the IMAGE as a MAVERICK BUT HE AIN't and his RECORD OF VOTES ON ISSUES ATTESTS TO THAT FACT !!
McC using the CONSTANT POW czrd has DIMINSHED himself and denigrate ALL who had similar circumstances and far too many with far worse outcomes. HE HAS 7+ homes, how many of the Vets HAVE NONE and REMAIN HOMELESS and left adrift and NOTE, McC did NOT vote on issues in THEIR favor but he tries to so claim and it is FALSE presumptive on HIS part !!!

McCain turns the black "POW / MIA: You are not forgotten" flag on its head. He's MIA on the issues, but how dare you! He's a POW!

If you're not a multimillionaire, consider yourself forgotten.

Quinn Martin and United Artist presents, "The Fugitive". The story of a one arm man who burglarizes the few homes left in the neighborhood, he doesn’t already own, commits to unspeakable atrocities and then is forced by Republican operatives to run (for president). Stafford Police Lieutenant Barack Obama, who hounds him at every turn, will be shocked to learn that he can never be convicted of his crimes, because he was a POW.

Am I correct that McCain proposes turning over even veterans' health care to the private sector? I thought I heard this last night in some of the speeches (I watched CSPAN, which shows ALL the speeches). Does this mean McCain thinks it's just fine that the private sector (such as Aetna, Blue Shield, United Healthcare) PROFITS from the horror suffered by our veterans? If so, this to me is immoral.
