John McCain's Piece of the Rock
Have you heard? John McCain was a P.O.W.?
The Keating Five are back. Can Boy George be far behind? By way of a modest appendix to Comrade Rosenberg's post, I simply note the extent to which Senator John McCain can take credit for the ginormous national debt that seems to give him nightmares. (Not me. How can we be broke? We still have more checks.) As of 1996, the cost of the S&L bailout was estimated at $481 billion. (Gory details here.) In today's money, that would be $674 billion, using the Consumer Price Index.
On a per capita basis, that comes out to $2,210. So for our little family of three -- myself, Maria, and our beloved little Roomba -- John owes us $6,630. I suppose inquiries should be directed to Cindy, since she handles the finances.

C.A., what are you doing back in the S&L bailout in 1996? Are you in a time warp? How about Bear Stearns and Fannie Mae, like, recently?
And isn't it a shame that candidate Obama can't seem to make hay over the huge spending binge of the Repubs, resulting in a per capita national debt of $30,000. And by all indications, he wants to spend even more (military, health, etc.) and dig us in even deeper. Imagine what Roomba has to look forward to (besides supporting you and Maria)!!
Congratulations on your doctorate, by the way. From looking at your past entries it must have happened about August 6th. What discipline did you read in?

Don Bacon asks;
Charles Keating? And as an added bonus, Neal Bush and Silverado. :-)

If it isn't obvious, Gabby Hayes' fingerprints are on the S&L debacle.
My two fields are robotics and the sexual practices of rhesus monkeys. Actually the August 6 date is merely when I corrected the bio info. My doctorate was granted at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen in 1906.

Turn of the century Tubingen was indeed a wonderful place for an intellectual young man with morbid tendencies. Beer was good, too.

Dr Rotwang, McCain was a POW? I hadn't heard. I think that changes everything.
