Ha'aretz Editorial on Iran: Israel Must Tone Down The Belligerence

user-pic

Check out this editorial from Ha'aretz today.

It concludes; "Israel must allow diplomatic efforts to move ahead, lower the tone of the military threat and understand that dialogue with Iran is essential to an attempt to reduce its military motivation."

Of course, that is in Israel. In the New York Times of Israel, in fact. But it's not the kind of thing one sees here, where the usual suspects -- the guys who brought us the last war -- are lusting over the next one.

Meanwhile here in the land of the free, Congress is still planning to move The Ackerman/Bayh resolutions to the floor after the recess. The House resolution would blockade Iran, an act of war. The Senate resolution (offered by Evan Bayh) is not nearly as bad but it also eschews diplomacy in favor of belligerence.

Check out this update on the bills (from July but still topical). This issue is not going away.

Here are the two bills, and their co-sponsors.

Well, its obvious that Ha'aretz wants to wait until Iran wipes out Israel with their nukes!

MJ,

Bayh is just another whore politician who will send people to war so they can look tough on defense and terror. This is what Hillary did when she voted for the war and supported the Kyl/Lieberman amendment. I think Mr. Ackerman is more concerned with Israel than he is with the U.S.

Now we have two guys running for the Presidency bloviating on Georgia so they can show the country how tough they are. McCain, with his war mentality, scares the crap out of me. Obama needs
to remember, he's running on "change."

My congressman Walter Jones isn't on there, I knew he would not be...that's why I voted for him again this year. He's republican, I'am not, he's very religous, I'am not very...but the man has humility and ethics and conviction. Not afraid to admit when he has been wrong and try to correct it.

For the rest on the list...well...I have long been convinced that 99% of congress is too corrupt, incompetent, (take your pick) to be reformed or smartened up. Hell we don't even have a US congress anymore, Orwellington DC is now an international shopping bazzare where anyone with 30 pieces of silver can buy a politican or a US war.

I voted for Obama in the primaries but frankly if Chuck Hagel had been on a ticket I probably would have voted for him because although I don't agree with his domestic policies he is the one who understands that we have to revert back to something resembling our founders "American" foreign policy to regain our former selves. And trust me...if we don't get our foreign policy right soon, the domestic and economic issues will be beside the point.

I don't know if I prefer to bombed away by McCain or compromised away by Obama.

And yea, Israel should shut the hell up. I don't think they are going to strike Iran on their own, but if they do and drag the US in, it's curtains for them. However I am not putting money on anything because you have some Israelis as batshit crazy as our congressional neos and zionist militants in the US.

I guess you could say I am slightly depressed and not hopeful for this once again wing nut, media led election.

BTW..excellent editorial, very accurate assesment of all the interest involved in the Iran issue.

Personally I think that although George Jr. pretended to disregard the Bush I old guard of James Baker & friends when they took a look at the ME stitution, George Jr actually started his turn toward reality then under that Bush I influence.

The only parts of the editorial that made me go "oh gawd" were these:

"Israel, which justifiably sees the threat presented by Iran"

First comes the sanity... then the insanity...no one believes Iran will bomb Israel except the usual zionist suspects and congressional war opportunist....and they dont actually "believe it", but it's a good excuse like Saddams's nukes, to neturalize a rising challange to Israel's goal of being the regional power blancer itself.

and...

"This is especially the case when it is clear that the region, Iran and the great powers all understand that Israel's military option has not evaporated and that faced with an existential, genuine and immediate threat, Israel will not take foreign interests into consideration."

Again, first comes the sanity...then comes the insanity...making the same threat in the editorial about " existential threat" that the editorial suggest Israel not make. Of course maybe they think they have to keep repeating their commitment to comitting suicide to be taken seriously.

Here is what is sad and stupid. The Jewish Sate because it is the Jewish state made possible by a holocaust, "assumes" that the Jewish and holocaust factor alone is enough for all those other interest in the world to give up their own national interest and defend Israel even if it does something to destroy 90% of the global economy after everyone has told them it is and would be an unnecessary act.

They won't, other nations do have a tolerance limit especially when it comes to their own surival and interest.
They really give me a headache. Tell me the zios and neos aren't that stupid.
Strike that last sentence...just convince me they aren't in charge any more.
