Grand New Party

Today at Cafe's Book Club Ross Douthat and Reihan Salam are joining us for a week long discussion on their new book: Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream. The title speaks for itself. We've got a great group of young blogger-reporters (Chris Hayes of The Nation, Kerry Howley of Reason Magazine and Dana Goldstein of The American Prospect) to discuss the future of American politics, and the politics of discourse. Buckle your seat belts.

First posts up this afternoon.

I don't know what they're so nervous about-- the Republicans already have the "working class." Democrats abandoned it a long time ago. A better question would be how to make the Republican Party serve the working class better.

You mean serve the interests of the voters?

That's a novel idea!

The Republicans 'serve' their base (there are Democrats in the 'working class too) by doing 'values' things. They also kick the ass of liberals. Bush also gets bad guys with oil. Their base love this stuff:

(1)Bush kicked Gore's butt.
(2)Bush kicked Kerry's butt.
(3)Bush got bad guy Saddam.
(4)Republicans increased regulation on abortion and the female reproductive tract (while neglecting to regulate financial markets.
(5)Republicans tried to kick gays butts by putting anti-gay stuff in the Constitution.

Okay, so, the Democrats will come in, fix #4a (I know, I know, gotta keep their panties down around their ankles for the American cause) and curiously neglect #4b.

Big improvement.

why would anybody want to belong to a political party that is led by traitors and thieves ???

these peoplewho dream of reforming the repuglitard party are smoking crack or something

we don't reform political parties

the DIE OFF

check the recorsd

federalist, whig, and now the repuglitard party is going to the ash heap of history

allowing a presnit to commit treason will do that to a political party

telling people that george bush isn't a real repuglitard isn't gonna work

george bush IS a repuglitard

How to win the working class:

Start serving the interests of the working class instead of the "haves and have mores" of very wealthy and corporations they own.
