Doug Feith's Feelings Hurt: Disses House Hearing
Doug Feith's feelings are hurt.
On Wednesday, he withdrew from a House hearing on interrogation methods used on detainees because he would not sit at the same witness table as Lawrence Wilkerson, who was Colin Powell's chief-of-staff.
According to Feith's lawyer, the former undersecretary of defense objected to certain things Wilkerson (and Powell, in fact) had said about him.
In 2006 Wilkerson accused Feith of being a "'card-carrying member of the Likud party' whose allegiance is to Israel rather than the United States." Also, Wilkerson said of Feith, "seldom have I met a dumber man."
I don't blame Feith for being hurt. Surely Wilkerson has met someone dumber than this Harvard educated lawyer. Secondly, Likud party members don't carry cards.
In any case, it's nice to know that Feith is suffering a bit (he lost his teaching job at Georgetown University).
He can't even count on McCain to bring him back should he win. Feith is the face of neoconservatism, being one of the prime authors of this document that outlines the war he and the gang leave as their permanent legacy. I also hear from friends on the Hill that McCain considers Feith "a total jerk." No doubt McCain has even stronger feelings about Feith than that. McCain is, like him or not, an American patriot while Feith is...the opposite.
Anyway, Feith had a bad day on Wednesday. His feelings were hurt. He is untouched by 4000 dead Americans, who could well be alive if Feith and his neocon friends had not received the security clearances they never should have received; 100,000 dead Iraqis; thousands and thousands of dead kid; but he hates when people call him mean names.
Thank God for the web. We cannot make the likes of Feith feel guilt for what they did to America, but we can remind him that we remember. I'd rather have him just volunteer at Walter Reed and explain to those kids why it was their job to Secure The Realm.
For more on the amazing career of Feith, start here.

Who gives a damn about Doug Feith's feelings? I certainly don't. The world would be a better place if he left Washington and went to work as a lawyer in some small town in . . . . . (hell, I don't know what State deserves to be punished by having Doug as a member of its bar.)

Ellen! How dare you! I think it is certainly true that there are at least 2 people ahead in this line for the FSGOTFOTE! George Bush comes to mind.
Why, my brain gets boggled at how long the list is; I suppose it would be disgraceful enough to come out in the top 10!
So, who would you put at the number one spot?

I was tickled when I watched that--Nadler didn't conceal his contempt and annoyance at Feith's immature, cowardly behavior.
It made me think of Tom Hank's team manager character in A League of Their Own, screaming, "There's no crying in baseball! There's no crying in baseball!!"

But what about bailing on the hearing? Will here be no consequences for him? Is a note from his attorney really enough? Is this along the lines of the telecoms' just needing a note from the Administration to give them immunity.
I'm so frustrated by all the others who claim executive privilege and have thus far gotten away with it, that I want the satisfaction of having Feith punished for being such a tool. I'm feeling the need for some kind of retribution, and if I can't get it for the things that really matter, I'm fooling myself that I'll feel better if Feith gets spanked by the Congress.
Actually, seeing that would make me feel a little better.

If I had not been careless with the keyboard, it would have been:
I'd rather see him arrested and tried for war crimes. The Hague is the best destination for Feith, along with Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Bush, Cheney, and all the rest involved in the groundwork for this Iraq debacle. (Nuremberg established the precedent that it was not losing a war, rather starting one, that was the crime.)
Anybody know if Spandau still stands?

No, I think it was torn down after Rudolph Hess died so that it wouldn't become a shrine for neo-Nazis.

Now if we can only get Yoo fired from Berkeley(?). UCLA? Anyway, fire his ass.
Neocons are classic examples of academic smarts allowed to thrive for much too long without every being reality-tested (until Iraq that is).
I find it really amusing that the Right still attacks the Left for being a bunch of "Ivory Tower intellectuals" when most of the current GOP platform comes from guys like the neocons, holed up in think tanks.
If someone who makes a bunch of money writing articles for something called a "think tank" doesn't quality as an out-of-touch intellectual elitist, who does?

Something interesting just slipped by without undo comment. That is the accusation that Feith's allegiance is to Israel and not the United States. I hadn't seen that before. Just a few years ago that would be grounds for being denounced as an antisemite. It would be fodder for a major scandal.
Have things changed this much so quickly? Can we now talk about dual loyalty in polite company?

I'm not sure what your point is here, but this is my take on your post: You mean that the person who SAID that Feith's loyalty is to Israel first should be called an antisemite; am I right? Why?
If a person in our country is either making decisions or influencing those who are has questionable loyalty, why shouldn't that be mentioned?
If Feith was prejudiced towards another country's needs (regardless of what country that might be) rather than what is best for our own security and it influenced him to skew intelligence towards a war that would help that country, isn't that relevent?
Is that antisemitism?

In the recent past one could be called an antisemite under these circumstances. I know, it happened to me. I was wondering if things have now changed -- Is it now possible to question a neocons loyalty to the US when they advocate war on Israel's behalf? If so, we have just experienced a major shift in attitudes.

Lots of things get denounced as anti semitism that aren't. Some even get called anti-semitism which are the reverse.
For instance, the claim that criticism of israel is anti-semitismm is identical to the claim that *Israel* and *the jewish religion* are identical: which is precisely the thinking of someone who'd blow up a diasporah synogogue to avenge some atrrocity conducted by the state of Israel.
So why are you trying to encourage anti-semitic thinking?

I think it is still a dangerous allegation to make and one that must be supported by ample evidence. The policy paper, A CLEAN BREAK, is troubling evidence that this time the accusation may be true. To add to that, Feith once said all Jews should vote for Bush because he would be good for Israel. After all, shouldn't he be good for America, too? Shouldn't that make the list of criteria?
Still, the accusation makes me uncomfortable. There are neocons who favored the war who are not Jewish. Many of the Jewish neocons have favored all sorts of wars including Nicaragua, the Balkans and going way back, the overthrow of Allende. They are warmongers. It would be hard to find a war they didn't support -- unlike the great many Republicans who opposed intervention in the Balkans. So maybe it's just they are all pocket Napoleons and just love war (so long as they're behind a desk.)

Also known as a Disciple of Judas. Shouldn't he be taken to Golgotha, or can we rely upon this traitor to hang himself?

Chickenhawk Feith bailed -- turned tail and ran to do a bit on lunatic fringe radio in the embrace of Bill Bennett because he apparently knew not only that Wilkerson, in his statement to Congress, would quote Tommy Franks about Feith being "the dumbest blankety-blank man on the planet," but he himself -- Wilkerson -- would also affirm that, offer to testify to that fact, and say a few more times that what Franks said of Feith is true.
And that's not all that Wilkerson said about the anti-American Neo-con[artists] and the damage -- the DISservice -- they've done to the military and the troops. His statement is heartening in its truth-telling.
When the torture came to light, Wilkerson worked at least full time researching what had happened for two years -- then resigned, and has continued his research since then. He names names.
Feith can't stand the heat, so he gets others to do his cooking for him. Probably is even terrifed of silverware, so has someone else cut up his food for him. Or perhaps it's simply that he doesn't know how to do it for himself.
I think it was Franks who also said that, if he were in the middle of an attack by the enemy, with Feith alongside, and he had one bullet left, he'd shoot Feith.
And I'll bet Feith believes he could win 9 out of 10 popularity contests -- if long he could substitute his delusions of granduer for the actual vote.
I think the only error in calling him the dumbest man on the planet is the inclusion of the word "man".

Uhuh -- nope: that's just way too close to actual military for Feith.
And I think one must have sufficient IQ to be capable of suffering mental illness. Feith just doesn't have sufficient mental for it to be ill.
