The Ones that Got Away
- Big Blue looks at the downfall of the Clinton campaign--particularly the failure of Mark Penn to portray her as a candidate with a message voters wanted to hear.
- Reader nyg2008 proposes Chris Dodd for Vice President, and gives a number of reasons Dodd would be Obama's best choice.
- Doctor Cleveland contrasts Obama's approach to foreign policy with the McCain/Bush/Lieberman method of dealing with enemies. Cleveland: "The goal is to humiliate one's opponents and make them lose face, while looking more impressive to one's own local admirers; essentially, this is the Gangster Rap School of Diplomacy."
- Doc Nebula shares his/her long transition to disillusionment with Hillary Clinton. Nebula: "At some point, Senator Clinton pretty clearly decided that she was fated to be the next President of the United States, that this was the way things were going to be, and anyone or anything that tried to get between her and her glorious destiny had better run for the high country."

I want to be perfectly clear to readers of my piece that I do not intend it as an attack on Sen. Clinton. It is meant to demonstrate the destructive force of Mark Penn on her campaign, but it is difficult to detail that without talking a little about Senator Clinton's own views on her campaign.
I strongly support the reconciliation of Clinton and Obama supporters, but I also believe Mark Penn is a destructive force on Democratic politics who needs to be maligned until he know longer possesses the respect of any strategists.

Just say No to Dodd as VP. We don't need Bear Stearns' best buddy involved here.

I think the hillary campaign is being unfairly maligned. I never did care for her but I think she ran a very good campaign. The problem was her opponent. Was that a man? A plane? OMG it's ...
Bing Crosby once commented that "a voice like Frank Sinatra's came only once in a lifetime, but unfortunately it was in my lifetime". I think Hillary could say something similar about Obama.

My piece, for what it's worth, is not meant to be an attack on Senator Clinton, either. I was simply taken aback by the concept that Senator Clinton's failure is largely due to misogyny on the part of those who oppose her, and was trying to show how, at least in my case, I do not believe that to be true, and beyond that, given how deeply Senator Clinton herself has played identity politics whenever she thought it would benefit her, it's not at all seemly for her supporters to still be waving the gender card around now.
