The Ones that Got Away
- Big Blue continues profiling potential Obama cabinet members with "media darling" Chuck Hagel.
- Reader twinkletoes digs up an article on Obama's foreign policy platform towards Iran, which, according to this reader, was about as progressive as a "Cheney stump speech."
- San Fernando Curt points us towards a Guardian story about the government's continuous use of floating dungeons for detainees. Curt mentions that 39 of these detainees have actually disappeared: "Something makes me doubt they've been given new names and identities, and work as cable installers in Idaho and Wyoming."
- Scientific discusses Obama's choice to leave Trinity United Church of Christ, and the media's need to "stoke our insecurities for the sake of ratings and start a fire they cannot control."

Obama's biggest problem coming out of Trinity church is not Jeremiah Wright or father Pfleger. It is the video of the congregation listening with enormous approval to all the racist bilge being spewed from the pulpit. There's no sign of shock in their faces. as they shout "Amen" and "Yes sir!". Clearly this is not the first time they have heard such racism from the pulpit. The greatest damage to Obama is that he chose to be a member of that congregation for 20 years, and saw fit to expose his children to it. He can claim he never heard some of the specific rhetoric that has been broadcast on the internet, but he can not claim he never associated with that congregation. He said he couldn't disavow Wright. But six weeks later he did. Now he has left the church. But he can't leave the congregation behind after he chose to make it his home for 20 years. All of this raises very troubling questions, and not everyone is willing or able to believe his attempts to distance himself from what those people believe.

Al, you picked some excellent "lost" posts today.
One thing I noticed is that when I try to link back to the San Fernando Curt post again, through your link, it's not there. Can you have that fixed? It was a very important post, as far as I'm concerned, and it's my hope that people see it.
