Did Obama Win the Drudge Primary?
Politico's Martin and Smith float the radical notion that the heart of the right wing online media machine, Matt Drudge, is a quiet Obama supporter.
After skewering Al Gore and lampooning John Kerry, he's emerged as an unreliable ally for the GOP, while trumpeting Obama's victories and shrugging at his scandals."It's clear to us that Barack Obama has won the Drudge Primary, and it's one of the most important primaries in this process," conceded a senior aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who also acknowledged that Drudge's treatment of Obama could make the Illinois senator more electable in November.
Wow! Rupert Murdoch and Matt Drudge on Barack's side. Evangelical's and Miami Cubans coming over to Obama's positions. Does the earth still revolve around the Sun?

Yeah, you would think this is a good thing.

Can he reach across the aisles to everyone? YES HE CAN! Can we win in November? YES WE CAN!

Exactly, good luck on that. Maybe O'Reilly is really a liberal and I am just too darn stupid to realize it.

If you check out Drudge on a regular basis, and I do, it's been pretty clear that trashing Obama hasn't been his agenda at all. Whether that makes him an actual supporter or not is hard to say. It seems pretty obvious that if it's between Hillary and Obama, Drudge favors the latter. But only time will tell when it becomes Obama v. McCain.

Drudge is not stupid. The entire world is watching, and he knows why. Obama has created a a hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmm - a noise.

Wow, Matt Drudge rules Jonathan Taplin's world.
I feel shocked.
And when Drudge inevitably does what Drudge does in the general (he'll smear the Hell out of Obama at the first opportunity) I guess Taplin will feel shocked.
I doubt that Taplin will do us the courtesy of admitting his mistake when the inevitable happens, but we'll see.
The takeaway, JT, is that Drudge hates us all. It's foolish to think otherwise.

Not only will Jon feel shocked but will exhibit his outrage here for all of us to see. He will state how Drudge has been mean to him time after time and that he shouldn't ever be trusted.

Hillary 'Marie Antoinette' Clinton will concede this evening. In addition, Hillary needs to apologize for all her false accusations, the cheap, the tawdry, and the tacky. Hillary needs to apologize to Obama personally and meaningfully. And lastly, Hillary needs to go home and stay home, please!
Drudge could be a disaffected Republican or an Independent, a demographic both McCain and Obama will be pursuing this November.

No, Drudge is a rabid Republican.
If he likes Obama, it's because he thinks Obama will lose the election for us.
I hope and believe that he's wrong.
But Drudge is not our friend and he doesn't wish us well.

The guy to watch is Murdoch. Say what you will about the bastard, he's politically astute and has a real knack for knowing when to jump sides.
He did it to the Conservatives in Britain in the mid '90s -- instructing his flagship tabloid, the Sun, to switch from diehard support for the Tories to equally lavish praise of Tony Blair. Murdoch and News Corp. were both rewarded with a very close relationship with the incoming PM and his government.
The way he's talking now makes me wonder if Murdoch has concluded that the GOP is also "played out."
I don't know if Murdoch would or could completely re-orient Fox News -- kneejerk pandering to the wing nuts being so central to the network's brand. But I wouldn't be surprised if word comes down from on high telling the Fox blowhards to lay off Obama, at least until Murdoch has a better sense of how the race is shaping up.
In fact, judging from the extremely negative reaction on Fox News to McCain's speech in New Orleans tonight, the word may already have come down.
You know it's getting pretty bad for the GOP when the Republican candidate can't even count on a free ride from Fox News.
