Wizards
The deep flaws in the Wizards have now been totally revealed by the team's third successive defeat at the hands of LeBron James.
The NBA is a double standard league. There was no reason to kick Songaila out of the game but they did, insuring that Cleveland would win.
But the Wizards have ended their season in ignominy.
The primary malefactor is Arenas. He should opt out and go elsewhere. He is an egomaniac and a cancer on the team. I hope his knee heals and he returns to form but he belongs with a team where he is the second or third best player and is forced to fit into his team's concept instead of here, where he tells the media whether he will play and informs his coach later. He cost the team game four in the playoffs and then skipped the next two, when he should have played ten to twenty minutes a game as planned from the beginning.
Second on the shame list is the pathetic supporting cast of Blatche, Pecherov and the other benchriders, who unlike the Cleveland second string came up small in every critical portion of the playoff round.
Butler is great. Jamieson is aging. The rest are so-so. The team needs to be rebuilt. The first step is to recognize that Arenas is bad for this team and a big man is needed.

Boston is having trouble with Atlanta. Since I live in Northern California, I will will refrain from cheering on the Lakers.

I live in LA and I will not refrain from cheering on the Lakers.
Go Lakers! They are the next NBA champs, and go Kobe, the MVP. This is almost as much fun as the late 80's and the good old days with Kareem, Magic and Worthy at the Forum.
I (almost) feel sorry for all you other guys whose teams will lose.

Reed
I like the allegorical implications of your post. Sports is a lot like politics. The NBA, for instance, is somehow popular even though the NHL is a vastly superior product in terms of intensity and overall athleticism.
The same goes for the presidency. Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, or John McCain WILL be the next president of the United States despite the fact that there are thousands if candidates more qualified to at least slow down our nation's decline.

Reed,
At least you have a team with a salary under control and a few wins under your belt. You also should recognize the benefits of having a player with a production level equal to or greater than the cost of his antics (although I happen to believe that Arenas is generally good for the game with his quirky behavior and willingness to give an opinion on issues other than basketball). I do agree that chemestry is important and your team is not championship quality but considering where your history, be happy. Try being a knick fan with a ridiculous payroll, long term contracts for overpaid, underachieving malcontents, with an owner who thinks he is a GM and is nothing more than a rich kid with less talent than the bottom rungs of fantasy league players. he also has no humility or judgment skills but I will save that for later.
Came on to read a little political insight and read your post. I must have needed a bit of a venting session.

I didn't realize this site had become a sports blog, but let me just say, as someone who agrees enthusiastically with your political posts: "You ignorant slut!"
Blowing up this team would mean a return to the pathetic Bullets teams of the late '80s and '90s. They have a good thing going, they have good chemistry, they have two tough, mature, smart players in Butler and Jamieson, and they have a scoring machine in Arenas. Let's try and see what happens if they have a full season in health.
