A French Education

user-pic

The BBC reports that at least 19,000 teachers and students have protested in Paris, along with more protesters in other cities, in response to a proposal to cut funding for schools and lay off teachers. The contrast with the situation in Massachusetts school districts, the subject of my last post, could not be more stark. This demonstration of democratic energy is amazing. It is also a bit demoralizing, though, since it is so foreign to my experience of democracy here.

This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, children health indeed.

France also gives practically the whole work force a month off, in August. Like myself, I hope Reece is still boycotting the French for questioning the judgment of George W. Bush and actually pretending our (from Dick Cavett) 'tinpot Genghis Khan from Crawford needed a permission slip to invade Iraq.

America's strength has never been an educated public, end of story. Massachusetts is an example. They are too smart, too highly paid, covered with a state health care plan, and elect the likes of Kerry and Kennedy. Massachusetts schools are funded better than Alabama, Texas or Guatemala, so whats the rub?

religious sect may degenerate into a political faction,' wrote James Madison, but the new American nation would nevertheless be protected against the ungovernable combination of religious fervor and political power as long as the Constitution prohibited the federal government from establishing any particular creed as preeminent.

I have nothing against protests. As long as they don’t turn into riots, protests are constructive. People should have the chance to prove their point and if that’s the only way they can make themselves clear, let it be! 19.000 teachers! That is cool! I’m amazed they had the courage to do this. They must have had a good leader. Probably some of them got a href="http://www.loyolaneworleansonline.com/justice/criminal-justice-degree-online-masters-programs.asp">Criminal Justice degree online. It surely helped them organize such an event.

The French students always proved an amazing solidarity. Their sympathetic strikes were received with great sympathy by the public. I once talked with a student who was in a masters degree nursing class and he told me that we can learn a lot from the French student cohesion.

I was just browsing on masters of health administration when I found your website. It is sad to hear that the government didn't find anything else to cut off except the funds for schools.I guess if we don't do anything they will keep cutting untile there is nothing left.

I just finished taking one of the rn to bsn online programs at the university. I found myself a job fast and my life is going pretty well right about now. Some of the teachers that taught me are in the same situation of getting fired like the French are. I hope they can have the strength to get out in the streets and prove their point of view. After all "education is the cornerstone of our society".
