Tears of Rage

user-pic

I just watched on my Tivo the Doug Feith interview on 60 Minutes. Tommy Franks called him "the dumbest man on the planet", but that was generous. Here is a man who refuses to take any responsibility for the tragic deaths of 4000 of our men and women, the maiming of 20,000 more soldiers and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. In a better world he would be serving as an orderly in a Baghdad hospital for $10 a day instead of holding a professorship at Georgetown University.

All I can think of is Bob Dylan's line "Tears of grief, tears of rage".

Personally, I think serving in a Baghdad Hospital is WAY to easy for the likes of Doug Feith!!!

Perhaps sharing a cell with some of the folks presently staying in Gitmo would be a suitable plan- with a little water boarding on the side - just for funsies. Hey we could have Mr. Yoo along too. What fun!

Problem is that then we would become the monster ourselves. The real issue, and you nailed it, is that these folks live in total cognitive dissonance and far away from the factual reality of their actions. I don't really know how to get such people to see what they have done... sad to say.

It is up to us, the electorate to see that this sort of thing doesn't happen again. We, some of us anyway, who were around during the Westmoreland, Mac Namara and Laird years, learned some lessons - others who were too busy, or too stoned [though in the reserves] obviously, didn't learn those lessons.

"In a better world he would be serving as an orderly in a Baghdad hospital for $10 a day instead of holding a professorship at Georgetown University."

Feith at Georgetown; Yoo the pride of Berkeley; and Condoleeza Rice the renowned former President of Stanford. Thomas Friedman, Pulitzer prize winner meet Judith Miller, Pulitzer prize winner. Alan Greenspan, boy wonder, maestro, architect of the housing bubble and supporter and enabler of the Bush "tax cut cum war". America at the twenty-first century... intellectually bankrupt.

If war crimes trials ever happen for these politicians who lead us into this terrible war... I wonder what they will say then?

VLaszlo, great post.

I hope at some point, though, this nation grows enough intellectually to recognize and sign onto the International Court of Justice, a/k/a the World Court. There will be no war crimes trials for these criminals until/unless we do.

I have a question: since the courts decided that a private citizen (Paula Jones)could file a civil suit against a sitting president (Bill Clinton), and since Pelosi has insisted that impeachment is off the table, would it be possible for a group of Americans to file a class action suit against some of these yahoos?

I am so sick of seeing these guys get away with anything and everything.

Tommy Franks called him "the dumbest man on the planet"

As they say, "Takes one to know one."

I was outraged after seeing this interview. How can a university like Georgetown hire a person who refuses to accept any responsibilities for decisions that led the death of thousands, not to mention one of the most disasterous foreign policies in our history. The man is a true coward. Same is true for Yoo at Berkley. How can students at these universities sit through their lectures and not feel shame or contempt.
