Coming Soon to a TPMCafe Near You

user-pic

It's been a long time coming, but we're excited to announce that a new and improved TPMCafe is going to be launched in the next day or so.

Let me tell you a little about what to expect.

The site has been streamlined to accomplish three things:

1. make the content more readable by pulling all of the sub-blogs into one column,

2. make the look of the site gel with the new crisp design of the main site, TPMmuckraker, and TPM Election Central,

3. and give you the power through your account to recommend, comment and blog not only at TPMCafe, but across all of our sites. Just like at TPMCafe now, your comments on all of the TPM sites will be listed on your new and improved TPM profile.

On this third point, an exciting note. One of the most important parts of a community site like TPMCafe is your participation. We encourage our authors to interact with you and we encourage you to become authors.

The new community tools will take this to a new level. Reader posts will be listed in the sidebar of the main page of TPMCafe (not just on a sub-page), and those most recommended by fellow readers will float to the top. And if a reader is posting on something that TPMmuckraker or TPM Election Central has been covering, they can choose to have their post listed on the sidebar of those sites as well.

Our hope is that readers will use these tools to collectively promote new voices and push them to readers not only of TPMCafe but throughout the TPM network. The posts you put up, or you recommend, will now be see by a much bigger audience.

If this is all seems confusing right now, worry not. The new site will be up in the next few days and all will become clear. And once the site is up, I'm sure there will be lots of questions. Of course, at that point we'll have open threads to kill glitches and bugs and make sure you all know exactly how to enjoy the new and improved TPM.

We're really looking forward to it. Until then, I'm getting back to work to make sure we get it just right.

Thanks for the hard work, Andrew.  One point of clarification.  You write:

The posts you put up, or you recommend, will not be see by a much bigger audience.

I figger you mean "will now be seen by..."?

haha, yes that's what I meant. Sorry.

Yes, thanks for all the work that must have gone into it. I look forward to giving it a spin.

Sounds quite a bit like Daily Kos

Sites like Kos, MyDD are definitely an inspiration for part of what we're trying to do, absolutely.

Andrew, thanks much to you and the rest of those working on this.

Thanks for all the continuing hard work Andrew. TPM in all it's forms continues to grow and evolve in exciting ways which is one reason I try to stop by every day...well that and Mittmentum! I may have caught it from Josh.

I need to increase my vitamin C intake...

Will your history in comments not take a Young Earth's lifetime to appear now?

Oh please say yes!

As much as this idea sounds lovely, and I know many will enjoy and profit from the exposure, I will miss the quiet of being among the "back-benchers" at the Cafe. We Back Benchers have pretty much had our own community or maybe it's been several communities. You may have missed the Campaign of the Marshall Marshall, for example, the only campaign this year that has been totally clean and totally fun, where Dodge lives on and the Saloon is a place "where you always feel at home."

So I say goodbye to the back benches and hello to the New Improved Cafe. But the Saloon lives on. And the Marshall Marshall (Josh) continues as our candidate for Mayor of the Universe (and other titles that we gave him).

The changes that would foreground the backgrounders like us, I think, sound a fair amount like how it was at TPM 1.0, which had similar features for highlighting some reader's posts.  That had a pretty robust back bench,

Thanks for the reassurance, Devon.  Much appreciated.

I wonder if we'll have to re-register.  I registered for 1.0 - but didn't bother to re-register for a long time when the change happened.  I hope we won't lose our posts.

You won't lose your posts and when you log in on the new system you'll just have to get a new password sent to your email address. After that, your profile and comments and posts will be normal.

When I look at my profile I only see posts that are at least 2 years old, and nothing that I've posted in the last few months. Also I cannot seem to access any archives of post written in the last few weeks.
