Bragging Open Thread

user-pic

I promise I'll let you use this thread for whatever purposes you like if you just allow me to link to this The New York Times' piece that references Max Sawicky and the debate hosted here on Chris Hayes' Hip Heterodoxy.

TPMCafe isn't just about the news. It is news, ladies and gents.

Apparently you need to ask someone else for permission to put the link up . . .

I like your other picture better.  You look kind of ET'ish in this one.

But I'm all smiley! Isn't that better? The other one was so serious...

user-pic

Whoops. It's there now.

hmmm, perhaps Andrew but consider this -

People in this country would probably rather see an angry/serious American than a happy/smiley "alien"! Especially if Lou Dobbs has gotten his hands on them.

user-pic

I don't look like an alien! You guys are harsh.

Um - that was (is) the goal, wasn't it?

sPh

That's great!

It's funny, the Times has been so much better about getting bloggy, but, still, look at that link to the Cafe. It should point to the book club, not the main page, no? Or, even better, Max's comment.

Let's face it -- the Times is not cool, like us. :-)

"Thank God George Bush is our president." -Rudy Giuliani

Thanks! =)

HAHA!

To be honest I didn't really think you did but simply went with the earlier observation. Besides, I think there was an "-ish" after the ET which would indicate that you're not REALLY an alien but just sort of remind people of the better (more huggable) qualities that an alien represents. Sort of like kitchen staffs and lawn crews here in Los Angeles do for some Americans. >.

Oh, and if we're bragging, we should also point folks over to Wired Mag.

Our own Mrs. Panstreppon is not only mentioned in a feature article about citizen journalism (part of a larger story Wired is doing on crowdsourcing), but she's also interviewed over at Assignment Zero (the sort of incubator site for the Wired story).

Yes, we rock the world of the New York Times.

Except for Thomas Friedman and David Brooks. Because they don't know how to rock.

thosethingswesay.blogspot.com

But similar to Shatner's hair piece, that mustache of Friedman's will abandon his mug at night and go out clubbing and rocks REAL hard.

Hey, Golis, what's it take to get someone banned around here? Seriously.

Though unlike Shatner, there's no kitsch value in hearing Friedman sing "Mr. Tambourine Man."

Andrew,  Look at all the light on the left side of your face--it kinda looks like a supernova is going off!  (Just joking -- your previous picture seemed like a more natural smile and it just reminded me of someone I really liked at one time, and when you changed the picture, I missed the old one.)  This one is just fine!!

Believe me, I am the queen of bad pictures, so I am impressed that you have managed to post 3 (?) that all look human!  I just wanted to rib you.

Jan

Glad you posted that.  Here in TPM, it could easily have polarized fast into the stablishment and the rabid lefties, and the Times did a good job (for once) of making them not so crazy after all. Very chastening about the social science period.

Who?

Never mind...I found it...

J. McCutchen

As fine as the thread's headline assuredly is (congrats to all!!), can't beat this one

Senate Republicans Stop More Leave for Troops

I hear Pelosi's going to put the Webb amendment into the House version of the DoD Authorization..thence to conference..back to the Senate and on to Bush's desk for what? Another veto?

Support the troops.

Phew, you were making me nervous. People told me my old picture didn't really look like me, so when I put up one that did and got called an alien I was worried ;)

I didn't! *Scampers off to search*

Lou Dobbs: Andrew Golis is stealing our jobs. Well, not my job. I'm Loue Dobbs! Love me! Love me!

thosethingswesay.blogspot.com

That's why, more often than not, I don't read MJ's posts. Or at least not the comments inside.

I'm with you cscs. Sadly, I like MJ's posts. But even when I have something to say, I often don't add a comment. The posts are fine. Some commenters, even those I disagree with, are fine. But every conversation surrounding an MJ post gets hijacked by trolls.

I deserve a gold star!!!

(Well, this is a bragging Blog, right?)  Here are my reasons.

  1. I read Andrew's Post--2 points
  2. I read the responses to Andrew's Post--5 points (There aren't all that many yet.  It isn't that I don't value you guys)
  3. I read the link to the New York Times in Andrew's Post--15 points
  4. I read the article in the Nation Magazine--20 points
  5. I dropped a few bucks in the Nation's bucket as requested by the editor.  -- 50 points.  This resource is too important to lose due to predatory postal pricing practices favoring the big (and generally nasty) magazines.  Until Congress fixes this, I want to help them out.

Is it possible for us to build some consensus as to who should be banned? The three I address in the other post would be my nominees. Any dispute? Any one else to add?

You do loom a bit.

Use a longer lens, or longer setting. Portraits should be taken from a distance, like 8-10 feet, with telephoto to fill the frame.

Honestly, I don't pay attention enough to say who should or shouldn't be.

Best thing to do is point out the disruptions to Management and let them make the call. (Yes, maybe that's a bit of a cop out...but I really don't feel I'm in a position to say...I just don't read the stuff enough...)

"Thank God George Bush is our president." -Rudy Giuliani

The idea of a mass action, seeking redress on Constitution Day, could be a newsmaker here. We're not exactly a clamoring mob, but quite a few of us think it could be effective.
