Liberal Propaganda Watch: Murderous Vehicles
For all the blather about the end of The Sopranos, its cunning subliminal propaganda has been overlooked so far!
There are no fewer than two scenes involving murderous vehicles. In the first, A. J. and his girlfriend are about to do "it" when the vehicle goes up in smoke--its catalytic converter has ignited a pile of leaves. In the other, Phil Leotardo's vehicle, stuck in gear, creeps forward and-- well, let's just say it's not a pretty sight (or sound).
In each case, the lethal vehicle is an SUV.
Very clever, your propaganda, so-called Home Box Office.
You may disguise yourself as David Chase, but CREAM spots the actual auteur: Al Gore.
--Horror Davidowitz, Chairman, President, and Board of Directors, Center for Research and Education on American Media
[in memory of Ellen Willis]
Note: Alert reader Sean Wilentz observes that Meadow took so long to park because her space was crowded by...two more SUVs. Those tree-huggers will stop at nothing.

Once again, I laughed so hard I scared the cat. "Horror Davidowitz" is wonderful. I speak as one who was Horowitzed at my university a couple of years ago. If he comes back, I'll be ready for him.

the man is too dense to understand the irony of AJ's SUV going up in flames. his replacement car, a BMW M3 gets worse gas mileage than the nissan Xterra. yet AJ sees it as a step in the right direction for the environment.
this is called narrative dissonance. something that mr. horrowitz wouldn't understand because he is dumber than a post.
as for the other SUV crushing the head of the gangster at the gas station, i think the size of the car has nothing to do with it. it simply reflects the type of person who in his situation -- a man with a wife and two young kids. last time i checked, that car was a "family car". the writers are just being true to life.
the car was obviously not at fault for the accident, as the wife left the car in drive when she got out of it.

Oh ya, both Al Gore and David Chase have had nothing better to do in these past several months than come up with a way to incorporate Gore's fight against global warming into the climax episode of Chase's TV masterpiece.
But leave it to this idiot to try to link the two in order to further HIS own agenda. What a fool...

The Sopranos should be the new metric by which we judge whether or not an individual "gets it" or not - and I mean "gets" the world beyond one's idiotic prejudices and obtuse realities. I understand that some people simply are not fans. However, if "Horror Davidowitz" wishes to make some grand winger point about what the show conveys, it might help him to actually, you know, have a background by which to judge the show. To chase, and the show in general, SUV cracks aren't *about* SUVs; they're about how morons like A.J. think about SUVs, coupled with their pop understanding of environmental issues specifically, and social issues generally - i.e. they don't fucking have a clue beyond the world that spins around 5 feet beyond their noses.
It's pretty hilarious that "Horror Davidowitz" pretty much proved that point without even trying.

Don't be too sure of that -- DC electric motors are famous (in certain circles) for their low-end torque.

Lets see...
If SUVs are outlawed only outlaws will have SUVs.
Yeah, that's the ticket.

My Prius wouldn't crush anyone's head either. It COULD, it just WOULDN'T. Smart car, and with a conscience too.

My God, you're RIGHT! And -- I see it clearly, now -- Phil giving some "head" to his own daughter and grandchildren was a reference to Bill Clinton's pedophilia.
Liberal media, my ass.

Gosh, that "Sopranos" show is over, and I've never seen a single episode!
And what the hell is the fuss about the Paris Hilton? Lose their Michelin rating?

Yes. But give it 48 hours, and will cease to be such.

The Prius does appear to be a smart car, and economical too. For cars with conscience, however, might I also suggest that TPM readers consider those automobiles substantially made and/or assembled by unionized workers in the United States and Canada?

Looks like only 3 posts so far that don't get satire, we'll see how it ends up. Did anyone run the totals on Berube's brilliant piece a while back?

Looks like EWK is the coolest and most "in the know" poster in this thread. For those of us un-cool dumb-asses and not "in the know," who is Davidowitz, and is satire his usual forte, and should it matter to us?

What do you expect from somone who was dumb enough to start with that he was a Stalinist? I knew David Horror-(he has no)-wits "back in the day" and he was the guy I always held up to everyone else as the example of what it took to be dumb enough to be a Stalinist.
The guy does, however, put the lie to the ancient anti-Semitic slur that all Jews are smart.

Horror Davidowitz = David Horowitz.
As described in Media Matters for America:
Campus Progress puts it this way:
My campus was "blessed" with a Horowitz visit a couple of years back. But we were lucky. The Young Republicans brought him only once. They blessed us with Ann Coulter twice.

Only a real knucklehead would complain the Sopranos are too moralistic. Only those living in goon fantasy land (probably on borrowed time) could reach such a conclusion.

The "anti-SUV bias" was more pronounced a few seasons back in the "Irregular Around the Margins" episode. There, Tony and Adrianna were driving late at night in his SUV when it flipped over.
After the accident, Tony made the knuckleheaded comment about how lucky they were to be traveling in an SUV otherwise they might have died. None of the characters pointed out that they probably would not have flipped over in a different type of vehicle.
I think the accident that led to Christopher's death this season was also in an SUV.

I don't have cable.
I don't "do" gangsters, even as escapist fiction.
What's the stereotypic cable fantasy about Italian mobsters?
Who gives a fuck, Gitlin.
How about we do a murderous-s-affection with a Jewish mobster -- say, Abramoff.
Has anyone ever asked the question of Jewish mobster Abramoff who called in the Italian hit against the gambling boat owner who refused to sell to Abramoff and his partner?
Ain't it great to be a leftist middle-classer who can afford irrelevant cable? How about we ask yet again the relevant reality question: Who called in the hit against the person who refused to sell his gambling votes to Abramoff?
Is that too difficult a question ask? So lonh as the gangster inst Italian, and fiction?

FWIW (at least a nickle) the previous week's episide ("The Blue Comet") featured a Prius running over the motorcyclist who got dumped off his bike in front of da Bing. It was maroon, if you'd care to check it out.
Chase is nothing, if not equal opportunity.
