Game Over

user-pic

A comment by "Commenterlein" from the 'Mafia' thread at Tyler Cowen's very fine Marginal Revolution blog, in response to criticism of his anonymous attacks (here as well) on the undifferentiated multitude of heterodox economists:

"Barkley, The things I put my name to are carefully thought through (or at least I try to), then written, then read and re-read many times, then put onto the shelf for at least a month, then re-written, and then maybe finally shown to other people. Even with this approach, plenty of stuff which I regret five years later has made it into my published work. My commenting on blogs is something I do while waiting for a slow regression to converge, and is certainly not at the level of quality I would like to see associated with my name. I understand and respect that you and many others think differently about this issue, but now you know why I don't want to reveal my identity."

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you rigor in the Academy.

I, of all people, appreciate your criticism of the elite in Academia, Max.

In your reflective moments, has it ever occurred to you that you sometimes do unto others as they have done unto you?

When do you think you will ever get around to evaluating my heterodox arguments on the Progressive Income Tax, as you once promised? You know, the ones I presented here:

The Progressive Income Tax: Theoretical Foundations

Just asking...

How dare he use a screen name.

whoops, that's me being Blackpot74 calling potblack23 er...

You know...

Besides, nobody is actually named Max Sawicky.

Just kidding.

Max,

Care to explain the purpose of this post?

Thank you.

No, I'm a prince when it comes to others. There's a lot of stuff I haven't read, and limits to my time. I haven't disparaged you as an individual or thinker in any way.

You're right, my real name is Vin Diesel. I use Max Sawicky as a handle because it's cooler.

You're my new poster boy for unreflective, elitist, ideological bigotry.

Best that you remain anonymous.

Fair enough, always happy to be of service.

Just a thought: You may want to appear slightly less unhinged if you want to motivate people to reveal their identities online.

I will now go do something elitist and bigoted.

I guess I'm not very well informed re: your historical relationship with the Economic Elite. I had no idea that you had been disparaged as an individual or as a thinker. I hope you don't think that I was accusing you of such behavior.

What I was suggesting was that you were perhaps guilty of implicitly dismissing new ideas by ignoring them. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you're just a very busy man.

Let me just suggest to you that if you were to take the time to review my arguments, you would be able to demonstrate to The Elite through your example how they ought to behave when they are confronted by confronted by heterodox arguments.

Here's wishing you more time in your life...

I could tell by the pic. Hollywood icon, my friend. Hollywood icon.
