Various Predictions
San Antonio vs. Denver is best of first round in NBA.
The Democrat who wins on the Truly Super Tuesday, Feb 5/08, will be the one believed to be most capable and willing to withdraw completely from the occupation of Iraq, if elected. This is not ex-President Clinton's current point of view, but he can change.
The White House won't agree to renew the assault weapon ban. Another issue where Nancy Pelosi will reflect the will of the American people. By the beginning of 08 she will be the most popular politician in America. Will she endorse anyone for President?
In the ranks of those not currently in office, Al Gore's endorsement will be the most important. Who will make the commitment to stop global warming that is strong and smart and fervent enough to deserve that endorsement?
The Redskins will make a bizarre move at the time of the NFL draft. Probably they will end up with someone who plays a position that they already have well provided for, such as safety or wide receiver. Coach Gibbs is no player picker. As long as this team uses the pernicious derogatory nickname chosen by the racist owner George Preston Marshall it is doomed.
There is still an equity premium but the equities in question now are global.
There is little doubt that the United States will continue to grow economically over the next two decades. The questionable issue is whether the benefits of prosperity will be shared broadly or narrowly.
The Republicans will pick someone now regarded as a dark horse.
Technology -- information, biological, energy -- is about to produce a whole new wave of creative destruction that will be captured most by the nation that has the most pro-entrepreneurial culture. Culture is based on law, technology, and the social landscape or milieu; the United States and China are in a race for leadership in entrepreneurship and China is stepping ahead. In the next 20 years, economic power will go to the big nation that is most open to rapid change in scale and scope. The much-maligned hedge funds and private equity firms are critical agents of such change.

"The Republicans will pick someone now regarded as a dark horse."
They all look like dark horses to me. Just don't make it Chuck. I'd hate to have to vote against the better candidate because he is in the wrong party.

Nancy P didn't endorse her cousin (by marriage) Gavin Newsom in the first round of his first mayoral race four years ago and waited two weeks before eventually doing so. The Mayor's opponent was a Green
I don't expect her to endorse anyone, at least while it matters, because she wants to preserve her position as party leader in the House.

Do not worry. At least for 2008, the prerequisite in the Republican party is that one has to be a Neanderthal. (apologies to cavemen everywhere)

Maybe I'm mistaken, but endorsements probably matter more to the Beltway than to voters, at least endorsements by national figures.

While looking in the direction pointed by professional prognosticators, we will be completely blind-sided by next big event -- whatever it is. ;-)

I already think Pelosi is the most popular politician in America. She's not just smart, she's savvy. I consider our first female speaker the best thing that's happend to America since the 2000 recount debacle (and beginnig of TPM).

Right. That's why it will be Sam Brownback.

I worry about Huckabee, he is basically Brownback but savvy enough to hide it, he will come across as an actual "compassionate conservative" to the independants and moderates while using enough code to let the wing-nuts know he's got their back.
