The Ultimate Health Insurance Throw Down. The Rumble in the Book Club. The Death Match to Solve the Health Care Crisis.

Alright, I'm still working on a name. But this is big big big.

Sick author Jon Cohn and a team of health care wonk-elites will be joining us at the Book Club this week to sort out just how far the Democrats should go in pushing toward universal health care. Our distinguished group of debaters already includes Jacob Hacker, Ezra Klein, Matthew Holt, Robin Podolsky, Don McCanne, Roger Hickey and Maggie Mahar. Cohn will kick things off tomorrow.

Don't miss this one. Your health (care) may depend on it.

Enjoy the thread.

"Yo, this health care debate is gonna be sick, yo."

Nevermind.

Looking foward to your coverage of health care reform which could be the domestic issue that elects our next president

I do my own blog on health care crisis at called Critical Condition

Four points your expert panal might wish to consider

- A treatment based "disease care" system in NOT economically sustainable

- We grossly OVERUSE our disease care system because we have medicalized social problems like poverty and joblessness.

- We have been duped by organized medicine into an infantilized and dependent state and think we need them much more than we really do. (see the writings of Dr. Nortin Hadler)

- Hence individual and institutional prevention is our only way out ot this debacle.

The Healthcare Breakdown Throwdown! Operation Enduring Healthcare! The Doc Rock! Healthcare High Noon at TPMCafe! The Profiteer-Healthcare Face Off! ICU for the USA! Lo, and there shall be a debate!

I work in superhero comic books. I can't help it.

All's I know is I usually avoid the doctor like the plague (!!!) because it all comes out-of-pocket... and that's AFTER my monthly premium of $200 or so. I am self-employed with a $2500 deductible plan. I basically pay money for nothing, literally, to prevent having to pay out of pocket for the eventual catastrophe.

(I know that's poor grammar but it's cute, no?)

For John McCain, Joe Lieberman,Dick Cheney, Rudy Giuliani, George Bush, Laura and Barney this is "getting the job done" - sucess in Iraq

Would universal health care be the same as socialized health care? If so, I'm not for it. People have waiting lines for surgery in Canada, I'm told, and that doesn't appeal to me.

sign me up.

let's start by debunking urban legends like "canadian waiting lines" and "best care in the world" and socialized medicine is bad".

When and where do I tune in to the Book Club?

Starting tomorrow morning, right here.

The germs: in your throat or on your feet. (Apologies to W. S. Churchill)

When I learned of bacterial transfer of antibiotic transfer plasmids, I became concerned about beating a foe that, in its unicellular way, had discovered altruism and cooperation.

A managed care executive arrived at the Pearly Gates, and was taken out of line, with great rejoicing, by St. Peter, and taken to a place of exceeding splendor.

His guilt on denying care burst forth, and inquired why Heaven was paying him such honor.

"Quite alright. You'll only be allowed to stay for 48 hours."
