I am actually quite worried about developments in Iran. You all may remember that last month, before the AG scandal broke, TPM had done some indepth commentary about the notion of creating chaos, or rather, creating the medium for chaos, so that it would inevitably expand to Iran.

I note that the U.S. today has announced the largest naval exercise ever in the Persian Gulf, warning Iran to stay within their 12 mile boundary. On top of the seizure of British Naval seaman, this seems quite a bad (or good, depending on your viewpoint) sense of timing for these manuevers.

Does anyone know more about this exercise?

The perfect set-up, isn't it? Our ally Britain, attacked without provocation by the Iranians, the U.S. happening to have scheduled naval exercises, and the French bottling up the mouth to the strait. Escalating threats, misunderstandings...

Sounds like the making of the perfect storm, to me.
