No Intel Needed on Iraq
Anyone notice that John Negroponte wasn't at the Crawford "non-decisional meeting" on Iraq yesterday? As Director for National Intelligence, Negroponte is the only statutory member of the National Security Council who wasn't actually there.
Guess Bush and Co. don't think they need any intelligence information on what's going on in Iraq. They think they already know. And given their record, we can be sure that their "new way forward" on Iraq will have nothing to do with what is actually going on.

When you're creating your own reality, why bother to bring an emissary from what is, necessarily, a part of the reality-based community?
But after they create the new reality of an escalation, Together Forward II, then we, in the reality-based community, can study that escalation, judiciously as we will.
By now, we oughta know how this all works.
As for what is going on, this is heart-breaking:

FUBAR indeed.

What is or is not going on is completely irrelevant. The meetings are all about finding a cover word. 'Surge' does not work because it implies that there will be an 'ebb' in short order. 'Escalation' is no good because that describes what they are actually doing, always a bad idea.
From one of 'the Shakespeares' Bush allegedly read: a word, a word, my kingdom for a word.

Negroponte has not been excluded from the meeting because of his role as DNI, it's because of his earlier role as ambassador to Iraq. As ambassador in Iraq John what he did as ambassador in Honduras, set up a reign of terror by creating death squads. To an old cold warrior like John the "socialists" are always the only real enemy, which in Iraq meant the Sunnis who had lived secular lives for a generation under the marxist Baath Party. To John the first order of business was to terrorize the Sunnis the same way his death squads terrorized all of Central America. But, without John there to control his band of terrorist they took on a life of their own and have become the greatest obstacle to any new source of action.

I am sure for El Presidente and the Junta the "intel" just gets in the way. Bottom line is whatever they come up with will be their lie and they will tell it however they want to...
