A Number on Contractor Deaths
A few weeks back (I'm having technical difficulties to link it), I asked whether anyone could figure out how many contractor deaths have occured in the Iraq. As many private companies were leaving the conflict, it seemed an important question. Though the contractors are not the same as combat troops, the DoD is clearly relying on them in ways never before seen, and in exceptionally high numbers.
We seem to know the numbers now. Lodged in the story (linked by Josh yesterday) about the fact that the government now puts the number of contractors at 100,000 (ranging from translators to security personnel), there is mention that there have been 650 contractor deaths.
That is a very high number, well higher than I imagined. And its just worth knowing, I think, as we debate the costs of the war.

Does anyone know the number of serious contractor injuries?
