The Torture Debate

user-pic

The British press, increasingly skeptical of last week's terror arrests, is working up stories on whether this whole affair was the result of torture against alleged terrorists by Pakistan.

I have thought that the stories that the U.S. was pushing for the arrest were likely true and also odd. One report suggested that the U.S. threatened to take possession of folks in Pakistan if Pakistan and the U.K. did not act faster. So, as this unfolds, I do have a question: did we know what was going on in Pakistan? And if we did, did our pressure cause more intense torture that may have resulted in less than credible information. I don't know how this will play out, but I only have one question that remains: HAS ANYONE FOUND ANY OF THE SO-CALLED "GOODS" YET? The explanation that the British wouldn't disclose that they did makes no sense; of course they would. It may be that this was a real terror threat, but we have to keep focusing on the imminency of the allegations. A lot of people were scared last week, and that ought not to have been unsubstantiated. For an additional wrinkle, see this.

Great link -- the Craig Murray one, that is.  I'm going to add him to my blog list for a while.

And for those who missed Olbermann's take down of terror announcements as politics, here it is.

HAS ANYONE FOUND ANY OF THE SO-CALLED "GOODS" YET?

Well, the latest is that supposedly they have found materials used to make IEDs in the ground buried behind one of the suspects houses. This is after searching some 49 houses. It is all quite suspicious sounding.
