Bolton on Atlas Video

user-pic

In addition to the two interviews John Bolton has done with Pamela "Atlas Shrugs" Oshry, it seems he's also been a willing guest on at least one of her (outrageous and silly) video blogs. As if it weren't enough to sit down and interview with someone who believes Islam is evil and Kofi Annan is a "jihadi tool."

In this 14-second clip, Bolton excitedly tells Oshry: "We’re going to continue to make sure the American people get to make their own decisions about the U.N. and not be dictated by U.N. bureaucrats."

It's a statement that makes for good conservative populist political rhetoric, but it's simply not true. More importantly, as I've mentioned before, statements that might be helpful in a political context often hurt efforts to advance U.S. foreign policy. This statement, like much of Bolton's rhetoric, comes across as arrogant and self-righteous. If you want a 14-second window into how diplomatic isolation happens, this is it. Elevating the status of an anti-Islam hate-blogger doesn't hurt either.
