I try not to get too deep into efforts at election forecasting -- past effort efforts to read tea leaves haven't gone so well -- but it certainly is suggestive that so many Republicans don't want to admit they're Republicans.

"I try not to get too deep into efforts at election forecasting -- past effort efforts to read tea leaves haven't gone so well -- but it certainly is suggestive that so many Republicans don't want to admit they're Republicans."

There definitely is a pretty strong Democratic wind blowing at the moment. But determining the direction and force of the wind is only one element in the tea leaf reading process.

Kennedy is well known to be a Republican's republican in the state of MN...MN already has one Senator like that Norm Coleman and they do not want another.  Klobuchar is going to clobber Kennedy and rightly so.

The three candidates for the Republican nomination for the senate in Tennessee were hardly ever heard to utter the words "Bush" or "Iraq." However, a candidate for an open House seat in our first district tried the opposite strategy and talked about how he opposed cutting and running in Iraq; and how he strongly supported Bush. He finished third.

I have seen the Kennedy commercial here in Minnesota. He is clearly trying to portray himself as someone who will "cross the aisle" on votes and as a moderate. It is especially ironic, of course, because Kennedy is about as loyal a soldier as Bush could have. Strib examines the ad here:

"During 2001-2005, Kennedy has voted along with the majority of Republicans on about 95 percent of all partisan votes, . . . "
