Iraq and a hard place
A multi-day web-only discussion has been going on at foreignaffairs.org on what to do in Iraq with Larry Diamond, Christopher Hitchens, Stephen Biddle, Fred Kaplan, Kevin Drum, and Marc Lynch. And if that isn't cheery morning news, perhaps you would prefer to contemplate breakfast in 2003 Iraq --and remember what might have been.

I read all about these pretty slick stories against the war
and those who don’t like Joe Lieberman and Chuck Schumer good men who want the war in Iraq and maybe in Iran an Lebonan, syria and all Arab places. All you got to do is read your Bible. God said thet the Nation of Israel is his chosen people and thats that. That means that only Israel has the right to exist and that means that it can be anywhere it wants even if people get in the way like Palestinians. If they don’t go then it is ok to move them out, bulldoze their houses, take their farms and never let them in again. Starving them, and shooting them a litle is ok to if they start getting ornery.
God says that the Israelis can have atomic bombs and germs and nobody else around them and if they try, they get bombed, just like the Israelis did. If they look like it again the good old USA will beat them and take over just like we did. Now God says that the nation of Israel can use any thing it wants to exist so if there is some borrowing of secrets by good men who want to give them to AIPAC to give to the Nation of Israel thats ok to and anybody who don’t like it just don’t like God like they should. Now sometimes it gets tough like when the Israelis napomed our ship Liberty when it was snooping around and machine gunned those sailors who were trying to put out the fire and lower the life boats but God works in mysterious ways and our president said just leave them alone and sent the Navy planes back that were going to fight the Nation of Israel and they did and were told not to talk about it. You just can’t fight God or Gods people. Our president and all of our congressmen who love God know that since they vote to give Israel more money, planes and bombs every year.
Israel just bombed the Palestianians again and blew up Lebonan again. The Nation of Israel will need more Americans to fight just like they did in Iraq pretty soon. Its Gods will and so what’s the matter with that?

I've been visiting this website for a long time, and I've just got this to say to you: if you don't like what you call "slick stories" and "slick" discussion, this is not the place for you. Matter of fact, your argument is basically that discussion is not needed, that everything is God's will. Well, this site is FOR discussion, pretty "slick" discussion at that.

Well, I have a small bone to pick with this post.
There's nothing to respond to here.
It's an invitation to somewhere else where the discussion IS going on.
That's nice, but how about bringing up that discussion HERE?

My assumption is that rawhide is actually a critic of Israel, engaging in a parody of the writings of the most ignorant sort of fundamentalist, Christian Zionist wingnuts. The irony comes through pretty clearly in the discussion of the Liberty incident.

That was the impression I got.
Risky business under the new site rules, though, maybe.

well, if that happens to be the case, of course, I take back my comment, but I still think it rates a "1".

Yeah; I was trying to figure out who's comment was the funniest -- rawhide's or selfinterest's.
