Policy, and History, According to Perle

user-pic

Relax, Dems, you didn’t “lose Iran.” Condi did. That’s what Richard Perle tells us today. While fellow neocons go after the Dems on the outside of the Bush Iraq policy, Perle set out after those on the inside of Iran policy. Appeasement, accommodation, dithering --- he throws it all in there.

Nothing surprising given the source. But even for Perle, the claim that when the Iran nuclear proliferation story broke in 2003 “We could have referred the matter to the U. N. Security Council and DEMANDED [my emphasis] immediate action,” is staggering. 2003, hmmm, wasn’t something else going on at the UN then, something that dragged down American credibility to an all-time low, something that Perle was among those most vociferous about going in-your-face to the UN…..something called Iraq?

Perle lost the plot a while ago now.
His neocon project being dead and buried, his next one will be to stay out of jail. Unclear he'll be more successful at it. Dick and his buddy Conrad Black can share a prison cell and reminisce about the good old days.

This from the man who called the UN "the truth fairy of American politics"?

I do seem to recall talk about Iran, North Korea in 2003.  Damned cut and run ultra liberals and their 20/20 foresight!!

Must be witchcraft

Got give Perle credit...right conclusion for the wrong reasons.  Bush/Condi et al did lose Iran..Iraq too..Afghanistan coming soon

LOSERS..that's what the Hillary/Lieberman Democrats should be howling..hibernating too long

Takes time for their beady eyes to adjust to the Light

The important point, as Justin Raimondo re-establishes today over at Antiwar.com, is that Iran and Iraq (and probably Syria, too) were and are part and parcel of the same neocon plan.

Raimondo brings back up the meeting in Italy between Ghorbanifar, Ledeen, Rhodes and others of the neocon crowd back when the war on Iraq was being touted. Iran was definitely involved - they dragged out some guy they claimed was a "Senior Revolutionary Guard" who told them the country was "ripe for anti-mullah revolution".

So it's no surprise that Perle and the other neocons are still beating the war drums on Iran. Iran was ALWAYS the main prize, not Iraq.

This is why the US will NEVER leave Iraq - it's intended to be the staging area for the war on Iran. That simple.

Which, of course, won't work, since the bulk of the Shia militia in Iraq will fight on Iran's side - but reality has never been involved in the neocon game plan, anyway.

Bush is running out of time - if Iran takes until July or August to reject the latest EU "offer", Bush will only have a month or two left to set up his attack.

But perhaps he won't need to attack before the elections - if the Dems make as dismal a showing as I expect, plus the usual vote fraud mechanisms, the Republicans may be able to postpone such an attack until 2007 or even later.

The Dems are running out of time to look like credible candidates, too.
