Worth a Read: The Terrorism Index
Many of us on America Abroad were interviewed for the Center for American Progress and Foreign Policy Magazine's Terrorism Index. Its an interesting read showing broad political concensus that the world is very dangerous and that the Iraq war is in whole, or part, responsible for that. Not surprising for readers of this blog, but shows that when experts are asked, anonymously, what really is going on, agreement and lots of pessimism reign.

"Furthermore, specific U.S. policies are cited by experts as contributing to our lack of progress in winning the war against terrorist networks. Majorities believe that the war in Iraq (87 percent), the detention of terrorist suspects in Guantanamo and elsewhere (81 percent), U.S. policy towards Iran (60 percent), and U.S. energy policy (64 percent) have had a negative impact on our national security."
Yet what percentage of U.S. senators and representatives have called for action on any of these points? Maybe two percent? Why is there such a disconnect between politicians and these "leading foreign security experts"?
