Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) has declined House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s request to resign from the House Ways and Means Committee. Her request notwithstanding, Pelosi and House Speaker Dennis Hastert have issued a joint statement demanding that documents seized in the FBI's raid on Jefferson's office be returned to the congressman immediately.
In an address to a joint session of Congress, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert expressed willingness to negotiate with the Palestinian Authority, but stressed that Israel might also unilaterally redraw its borders to include major West Bank settlements and a “united Jerusalem.”
