Sixteen people were killed and 25 were wounded today by a suicide bomber at a police recruitment center in Falluja, a hotspot of insurgent conflict.  Yesterday, ten people were killed by an attack on a convoy carrying the governor of the Anbar province, which contains Falluja.  The governor was not harmed.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher said that the people of Nepal have decided that the Monarchy will not hold any more political power in the country.  Boucher had just finished a brief visit to Kathmandu, where recent protests forced the King to reinstate parliament.  Boucher also said that the Maoist rebels who control much of the countryside will still be regarded as terrorists by the U.S.

Following recent pro-immigration protests, a 12-city tour is being scheduled by the Minuteman Project—a group of volunteers who organize patrols along the U.S.-Mexico Border.  The tour is intended to gather support for stricter rules on immigration as the U.S. Senate attempts to resolve its deadlock over immigration reform.

Stormy weather caused an Armenian passenger plan to crash off the Russian coast of the Black Sea today, killing all 113 on board.  Investigators do not think terrorism was a factor in the crash. 

Nearly 100 faculty members at Boston College think that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice should not have received an honorary degree from their school.  The faculty added their signatures to a letter written by two professors from the theology department.  On Monday, Rice was announced as the college’s commencement speaker.
