Where are the 300,000 Milk Cartons?

user-pic

Three hundred thousand of my neighbors are missing.  Most are out of state. Some probably live near you.  You have been kind and generous, but they want to come home.  You probably want them to come home too.  So – where is the outrage?  Where are the milk cartons? Seven months after Katrina, our city of 480,000 has maybe on a good day 180,000 people.

We have contractors.  We have land speculators.  We have fly by night rip off artists.

What does it take to get our people back?

Let’s start with electricity to homes.  Less than a third of the homes in New Orleans have electricity. Same for gas.  Some places have no drinkable water still.

Hello?  Is this the richest and most powerful nation in the history of the world?

You think the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is going bad?  Want to know why?  Come to New Orleans and take “the tour.”  Two hours in a car driving through mile after mile of empty streets will show you exactly why we are doing so poorly in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If we cannot rebuild New Orleans, how can we build other nations?

Where is the solidarity?  Where is the outrage? Hell, less than half the members of Congress have even visited (maybe we need to level a golf course in the middle for them and ask corporate lobbyists to put on a meal for them and their spouses, that would get them here).

Where are the 300,000 milk cartons?
