Running Low
India's bottomless pit of low-wage, high-skill, English speakers ready to take on all of America's white collar work turns out to be not so bottomless. Supplies of appropriately skilled workers are running low, wages are increasing rapidly, and some firms are looking to move their outsourcing someplace else like Eastern Europe.

At least something good might come of it if they start outsourcing to Africa. The continent sure needs it.

India also sure needs it.
You can tell who sure needs it by the low wages. If Matt is right, it is starting to look like Eastern Europe needs it more than India, though I doubt Eastern Europe has the supply of English speakers India has.
Eastern Europeans, for some reason, are probably going to instill less fear and animosity into the hearts of Middle America than Indians do. One can only imagine what will happen when Africa's turn comes.

In Northern Ireland a few years ago, there was some controversy when the Industrial Development Board started promoting us as the cheapest source of global high tech labour outside of India and Pakistan.
I wonder when Eastern Europe passed us by in the race to the bottom?

I read that a study showed that callers found Northern Irish accents more pleasant to hear than those of any other English speakers, and that
that research had motivated some large businesses to locate their call centers in Belfast.
