How to Encourage Employers to Hire Undocumented Workers

user-pic

Here's a good idea.

Nothing bugs employers more than employees who call in health and safety inspectors from the government.  So let's convince undocumented immigrants NEVER to talk to health and safety officials.  That way employers will want to hire only undocumented workers.   That will nicely increase the demand for more immigrants to cross the border.

So how do we make sure immigrant workers never call in health and safety inspectors?  How about having immigration officials routinely impersonate health and safety officials in order to go after immigrant workers?

Let's create as much distrust as possible among immigrant workers so that they are as compliant and exploited a workforce as possible.

But why should we be surprised that the Bush administration would use lies and deceit by government officials in pursuit of a policy that is a hopeless failure?

Clever ploy by Bush to round up those pesky illegals, funny, did any minutemen step up to fill the 48 newly vacant jobs at Seymour Johnson AFB in N.C.? How about having immigration agents dressed as doctors in emergency rooms, priests or as elementary school teachers??

Lets face it, Hispanic workers, immigrant, non-immigrant do a good job at most trades, concrete, brick and masonry, roofing, cooking, landscaping ... they have literally built a good part of this country and deserve better treatment and credit for the real contribution they make.

The point is really the safty and explotation of all workers. I agree that immigrants from south of the boarder do a very good job at the jobs they persue. But safe condition and reasonable pay should not be denied just because they come accross legally or not.  That is another problem that needs its own solution.

If employers were required to pass inspections  and pay prevailing wages, hiring illegal imigrants would no longer be quite so attractive, so it might just slow to a controlable flow. Worth a try and humane as well.

Oh and fines for breaking the law, which should be more then a slap on the wrist, should be used to hire and pay for the boarder patrol needed.

It is one of the odder aspects of Republicanism that health and safety inspectors coming to a place of business is the height of fascism but listening to everyones phone calls, checking bookstore and library reading lists are all perfectly fine.

The tragedy in WV showed that perhaps an even larger problem is that health and safety officials impersonate health and safety officials rather than doing an actual job.  Then again, Bush impersonates the Commander in Chief (I never heard about Bush poring over maps and intelligence reports and doing anything remotedly similar to commanding).
