Bush has totally screwed the pooch when it comes to protecting the United States. This encompasses our physical security as well as the precepts of our Constitution and the republic in general. His gross failure to protect us can be most emphatically seen in the circumstance of Iraq. It cannot be established we are safer because of having invaded Iraq. The premise for the action has proven false. Therefore, Iraq not having been a threat, we aren't safer for having invaded. In fact we may be less safe because our limited resources have been misdirected.

I have difficulty seeing any upside of this administration or this president. He clearly has a problem with illegal conduct within his party. We have scandals galore with indictments and trials sure to follow. The total set of decisions of this administration have a pervasive bent to being more than a little bit off the mark. I really haven't the expertise to comment on any of the legal merits of the actions of this administration. I feel very confident though, in stating that I have never seen such gross incompetence. And I fear that we haven't seen the end of repercussions because of it.

I think it has become very clear that this Administration has no intention of beng held accountable for a single thing they have done.  They are willing to force a Constitutional crisis in terms of the power of the Executive Branch and will continue to act in whatever way they like.  With a Republican Congress and a Supreme Court that leans to the right (especially if Alito is confirmed), Bush and his Administration are content to continue to do exactly as they always have.  Even the low approval ratings after Katrina did nothing except get us a desultory apology from Bush with virtually no action afterwards.

I think they figure that it will take years to really do anything within the framework of our institutions so they will simply go on and on unless someone in Congress or the courts stop them. 

THANK GOD FOR CONGRESSWOMAN JANE HARMAN!! At long last a Democratic congressperson has shown the courage to take on the most corrupt, criminal president in our history. Her letter makes an unbreakable case for impeachment, even without all of the other crimes Bush has pulled off being considered. We should all cross our fingers and hope the Democratic leadership will take this up and not drop it until Bush is impeached and convicted. This is unlikely to be on page one of any newspaper in our country, and CNN will totally ignore it, but this is still a major step forward for our country.

If the Republicans in Congress continue in lock-step behind Bush, I fear for our country.

I think Bush secretly wants something like 9/11 to happen again. Then he can crown himself dictator and do whatever he wants.

We need a few courageous people, especially Republicans, to stand up for this country. It is up to Congress and the Senate to stop this bloodless coup by the Bush crime family.

Bush has already proven that he has the press totally cowed. Big money corporations have the mainstream media hog-tied. So it is up to a few brave Senators and Congressman to stop this man.

The situation is very grave right now. Some people see Bush as weak. I see him as a nut-job with vast amounts of power at his disposal. Terrible damage has been done to the world when insane people somehow grab immence power. 

I'm amazed that the Congresswoman's personality is the concern you choose to address. Any concern about the minor detail of Bush attempting to destroy our system of checks and balances?

Humanadverb, like a good student, you ask the question so many are wondering about, but are afraid to ask.  Regarding the technicalities of the impeachment process, here is a good, concise summary of the procedure.

The Impeachment Process in a Nutshell
1.      The House Judiciary Committee deliberates over whether to initiate an impeachment inquiry.
2.      The Judiciary Committee adopts a resolution seeking authority from the entire House of Representatives to conduct an inquiry. Before voting, the House debates and considers the resolution. Approval requires a majority vote.
3.      The Judiciary Committee conducts an impeachment inquiry, possibly through public hearings. At the conclusion of the inquiry, articles of impeachment are prepared. They must be approved by a majority of the Committee.
4.      The House of Representatives considers and debates the articles of impeachment. A majority vote of the entire House is required to pass each article. Once an article is approved, the President is, technically speaking, "impeached" -- that is subject to trial in the Senate.
5.      The Senate holds trial on the articles of impeachment approved by the House. The Senate sits as a jury while the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over the trial.
6.      At the conclusion of the trial, the Senate votes on whether to remove the President from office. A two-thirds vote by the Members present in the Senate is required for removal.
7.      If the President is removed, the Vice-President assumes the Presidency under the chain of succession established by Amendment XXV.

Regarding what happens next, that’s anyone’s guess.  The same Republicans who investigated Clinton for everything they had ever suspected he did wrong—and they could only get him for the perjury—have not wanted to investigate anything that’s connected with the White House since Bushco took over. Your question gets to the very heart of the matter: anything to be done has to go through the Republican leadership, and that doesn’t look good.  But hey, Abramoff is a wild card that could change everything.

In other words, no one knows what will happen next!

These people passed articles of impeachment against Clinton because he lied about having sex with another very consenting adult.  Bush has publicly admitted not only to breaking a law designed to shore up two very important fundamental elements of our democratic republican form of government:  the liberty of our citizens and the rule of law.  He’s said he will continue to do so!

Remember when the Republicans kept repeating the mantra no man is above the law when it came to Clinton?

Did September 11 change everything?  Did we decide that all that "quaint" stuff in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution about liberty and the rule of law just didn't work any more?

Yes he was referring to the Abramoff scandal, but that's why God invented framing.  It is applicable to Iraq, to SpyGate, to PlameGate and to the forgotten but not gone AIPAC spy scandal

It pleases me to see people gather their courage to stop this.  Those who are displaying their courage need to know that I’m on their side.

Currently, what we are looking at is only a part of what this is.  There is a much bigger picture that many don’t know about and right now we are only at the beginning stages of exposing what this is.  The reason why I know is because when I married in the mid-70’s, my wife’s family joined Organized Crime.  This isn’t an ordinary Organized Crime system.  It’s much worse and huge beyond your wildest imagination.

Right now many who follow the news haven’t connected the dots.  The NSA problem has a connection with what is happening in the Abramoff story.  Plus the Abramoff story surfaces a MOB connection which is one of many and there are many more yet to come.  But yet, it isn’t about the MOB either as there is a strong Military link as well.  You should see it in the news with the SOCOM fraud and others.  The GREED problem is really totally out of control and they are working together. 

Again, how I know, I was in a family for more than 26 years who joined this monster.  Their job was to Launder money straight into property for the different criminal systems that are part of this.

If you’re shocked about what this is, it’s going to get more shocking as time goes on.

While the particular violations of the law are of interest, it has become quite apparent that the American government now is not based on the law, the constitution or any of the other trappings that were and still are important to the American mythos. The Bush government with considerable assistance from Democrats has a propaganda apparatus second to none and does not need to be bound by laws or tradition or the Constitution. The law is what they say it is. In the new America, the tyranny of the Republican government, it seems, will only be curtailed if and when the economy which seems to be tottering, actually fails entirely; but then the perverting of the forms and traditions ...governing by denying the consent of the governed...will lead, I am thinking, to vast social disorder.
