Yes, Virginia, as Jon Chait points out, Jack Abramoff is, indeed, a highly partisan and very influential Republican Party operative and not just some random corrupt lobbyist guy. The GOP's semi-successful effort to claim the reverse is made all the more remarkable by the fact that it's genuinely inconceivable that anyone living in the Washington area and working professionally in the political arena could believe otherwise. This is not one of your well-kept secrets or obscure little policy details.
