Where Does Your Lawmaker Stand on DeLay?
Rep. Kenny Hulshof, the Missouri Republican who headed the investigation of DeLay's role in trying to switch the vote of Michigan Republican Nick Smith during a three-hour vote on the final Medicare prescription drug bill in 2003 (the investigation resulted in a formal reprimand of DeLay in October 2004), has announced that he is giving ARMPAC contributions away and that he will oppose DeLay's return as majority leader, no matter the outcome.
Obviously there is no love lost between DeLay and Hulshof. The latter was removed from the ethics committee at the start of the 109th Congress.
Other than the fact that he's seen, up close and personal, DeLay's dirty deeds, why else would Hulshof take such an aggressive position?
It looks like Hulshof has state-wide ambitions and so maybe he's trying to present himself as "Mr. Clean." According to the press, Hulshof is deemed the Republican-in-waiting to succeed Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 2/14/05) In 2001, prominent Missouri Republicans tried to persuade Hulshof to challenge Democrat Jean Carnahan's bid for a full term in the Senate. He decided against it, citing family reasons. (Congressional Quarterly)
The folks over at The Daily DeLay wonder if Hulshof's action could be the start of a trend.
We hope to encourage it, if only for their "personal" reasons.

They have always liked their leaders to be religous and a little mad.

No doubt it is hard for Hulshof to stomach Roy's close ties to DeLay, and to see Matt with a 60% disapproval rating in the latest polls.

Hulshof's district covers Columbia, Missouri, and some surrounding rural areas.
The University of Missouri is located in Columbia. In short, the district, though rural, isn't particularly red.

Is anyone in Pelosi's office or the DCCC handling message control? If not, could they at least dispense some ritalin on Saturday night?

Hmmm...where does my lawmaker stand on DeLay. Well, my lawmaker is John Doolittle and he is known to be one of DeLay's Top Defenders and to vote in lockstep with DeLay (97%). Doolittle doesn't stand on or near DeLay, he's nestled in DeLay's back pocket. Only when DeLay changes into an orange jumpsuit will Doolittle create some space between himself and the Hammer.
