"The Redskins have emphasized the importance of the deep pass this season, but through the first three days of camp, few have been completed."

---This is alarming. Have they been thrown? Where have they gone? What's up out there in training camp? Those who are not truly Washingtonian can be transfixed by Roberts etc...but the viability of the long pass is important. Some believe that until the team changes its name it will never make the playoffs....

Ok, this and the panda on the day we lose 14 Marines?  What's next, women's volleyball ads?

Who is the QB in Washington this year?  Maybe they can get Riggins out of retirement to run 40 times a game, lol!!!

I think it's Patrick Ramsey at QB this year for the Landover Redskins. Their over the hill coach and overpriced payroll will once again fail to make the playoffs.  It's one of the few things in the Washington area worth smiling about these days.

Ramsey still?  I thought they picked up a real QB?  Ouch.  So instead of throwing deep, the question is...what is plan B?  Punt?  Gibbs has his work cut out for him.

avatar that you placed this in "Arts and Letters."

I got the impression that this website was devoted to high falutin blue state culcha. Is this a trick to confuse all those red state folks out there?

It is about "Blue State" issues...like how the New England Patriots won 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls.  They are definitely from a Blue State...and have a "real" QB, unlike the Skins.

Their cheerleaders are hot too...

The Redskins will be terrible until Dan Snyder either butts out or sells the team. As an Eagles fan, I'm hoping that isn't for a long, long time.

Honestly, is there a worse owner in the league? Maybe Bidwell in Arizona.

"...but the viability of the long pass is important."

And the viability of the long pass defense is important too.  Or else they could get burned by some unknown bench warmer named John Doe, or Clint Longley, or whomever at unexpected times.

Proudly from the blue states I say: Go Pats.
And then I add: not to talk politics or society or anything... but I read recently somewhere that 70% (ish) of Native Americans polled have no issues with the name "Redskins."  Personaly, it drives me crazy... but if they're not bothered by it, should the rest of us be?  Or, is this a matter of poor history lesions?
I've been debating this for years... change the name already!  I mean, imagine how much they'd make in sheer uniforms and hats.  Look at the Nationals, second highest in hat sales behind... well... let's put it this way: Go Red Sox.
And I don't expect the 'Skins to get anywhere this season... not with the Eagels on top and the 'Boys seemingly on the edge of post-season.  Then again, the last four SuperBowl losers pratically dropped of the face of the earth the following season... maybe the 'Skins make it after all.

Here in North Carolina's 11th District, many folks are hoping that Rep. Charles Taylor gets blindsided by a former Redskin QB named Heath Shuler.  He's been anointed by the DLC and the Clintons.

I had a discussion with my daughter, Amy, the other day, before I came here, to ask her what the most important issue was. She said she thought the long bomb — and the control of cornerbacks.

As a Washingtonian, I continue to be embarrased and dismayed that we still have a team with a name that is clearly an insult to an ethnic group.  The owners managed to get a judge to agree that it was really "honoring" native Americans - proving that doublethink is a reality.  If anyone thinks "redskins" is a term of honor, I suggest they pick up one of those cheap DVD collections of old Western movies.

If the owners had bitten the bullet and changed the name 20 years ago, we all would have forgotten it by now.  Every year they wait makes it harder, but it will have to be done someday.

Please do it now and give us a name we can be proud of.

The late Ohio State University football coach, Woody Hayes, posited that the problem with the forward pass was that three things can happen, two of them bad. Is this not reminiscent of many of the administrative and legislative activities of the federal government these days? Perhaps Mr. Hundt's point is not so flippant after all; he may be on to something.

If it gets harder to change the name every year, what makes you confident that the name will ever get changed?

Because at some point there will be a judge they can't buy off.
