What's New...

Josh Marshall threw down the gauntlet yesterday and invited other Coffeehouse contributors to imagine how they would set up Social Security if they were starting from scratch. Join Ed Kilgore, Mark Schmitt, Brad Delong, Matt Yglesias, Greg Anrig and others in discussing how progressives should promote economic security.

We already have a great debate going on at House of Labor over the legacy of Samuel Gompers and the historic estrangement of liberals from the union movement.

And over at the Warren Reports, Jason Spitalnick and Jon Lackow take on the conventional wisdom about bankruptcy filings and voluntary assistance.

Has Bush simply walked away from SS privatization? seems like he just declared victory and left. perhaps he decided that having both a Senate and a House bill (that both look DOA to me) was enough.

I'm curious to see what the Republicans are trying to send through committee this summer regarding Social Security legislation.  Does anyone have any of the specifics or inside information as to what they will be attempting?  To know that now could prove useful in continuing our efforts to block the R's efforts to dismantle Social Security.
